This is my second video done of the Little River Rail Road in the Smoky Mountains of my back yard.

It debuts Locomotive number 110. I built this with a $30 "Big Hauler" from eBay. The chassis and running gear were purchased from Bachmann for $35.

I hope you like the movie.

The loco (and line) look great. Tried to see the video before but the internet failed!

Did you buy the chassis to fit that particular Big Hauler or did you just buy a BH chassis and make it fit (as I know they are supposedly designed to fit a particular batch?year)?

Hi Mick,
The Bachmann parts site had a good variety of chassis with both the plastic running gear (cheaper at $35 US) and the all metal ("Annie" style at $50). I knew I had an old dog from E-bay, a version 3 I figured, and I went with the plastic running gear. It fit perfectly in the rebuild and has run nicely. I am not sure if the Annie style chassis would have fit or not. I was doing this project very much on the cheap and have $65 US invested in the locomotive. $30 for the eBay purchase price

The availability of "parts" at Bachmann has helped me plan future low cost projects.

Thanks for the info Tom - I have a couple of the early ones which are well on the way out - didn't know if was going to remotor with a new drive or fit new chassis. The Bachmann site states model numbers and I took all mine out of the boxes!

Yes, I did not have a model # or a box. I looked at the pictures at the Bachmann parts site and got one that looked the same. I suspect all the earlier models had the same mountings to the chassis. Good luck with your upgrades.

Hello,
I am glad you liked the video.
The American Black Bears came from Hobby Lobby (HL has a website) and the people came from Woodland Scenics, Hobby Lobby,Preiser, and Rail Road Avenue.

Thanks for the nice note. I got a great mechanism from the Bachmann parts website to upgrade my eBay junker. It made for a good running machine for all of $35 US. B.mann has a great thing going with their parts availability on the web.

The gondola was scratch built as an operating side dump ballast car. Its chassis came from a junked B.Mann flat and the body was built up to 1:20.3 scale

Here it is repairing the last bit of track that "washed out" high in the Smoky Mountains.

Thank you Richie. I appreciate your approval and in particular that you noted that long curved trestle.It was last years project.

It took almost a full year to complete in my spare time. It has about 30 bents in it. Each bent took about a week to hand saw, nail and glue. I am very glad that job is finished!!!
