Loco Miniature Railway Visit Dec 2012

ON Sunday 9th December the Wellington Garden Railway Club held their Christmas running day at the Loco Miniature Railway and Gardens www.loco.co.nz which is a commercial operation just north of Otaki (NZ). The railway covers approximately a ¼ acre and we estimate somewhere around 300m maybe closer to 400m of main line. As the WGRG has the occasional working party at Loco to help David, the owner, with maintenance, David allows us full running rights for our trains when we visit.
Right lets get to the pictures...there are a few :big smile:

At the Wellington Garden Railway Group's visit to Loco Miniature Railway and Gardens on 9th December 2012 Chris D's Lady Anne in full steam.

"Posh neighbourhood we're in today lads, even their trains are them flash Porsche jobs!"

Lloyd D's Accucraft Isle of Man "Viking" diesel loco and train load of Accucraft IoM coaches - very nice they are too.
IMG_8305.JPG

The lads are really confused, first they watch a German train go past and now it's a train form the Isle of Man. "I think we had one to many last night lads, best we stay on the wagon from now on!"

A general shot of the shaded section of the railway, just one small portion - it's a big railway.

Lots of chances for some long foreground pictures

One of the station areas. One of Loco's own trains in the siding leaving our rolling stock with full running rights. Very kind!

Like Murray B's Mack, my LGB Jonny was dwarfed by the extensive trackage and scenery.

Through the junction station and township.

And trains stoped at the main station while the lads consumed pizza's "Loco" cook on site in a wood fired oven - yum.

Little Jonny still dwarfed by the scenery. Jonny ran continuously for two hours, I wonder how far he ran? And he still had battery life to spare!

What a pleasure it must be to run on such an lovely and extensive railway, nice pics too thanks for posting:thumbup::thumbup:

John S's Roundhouse Lady Anne hauling Chris D's train on the outer mainline dog-bone loop, my Jonny is on the second inner continuous loop, umm loop.

John S's Lady Anne entering the junction station. (As you can see we need to have another working party on some of the track, much of it is code 250 aluminium rail and has a few humps and hollow after approaching 20 years use!)

And passing through the junction.
IMG_8332.JPG

Chris D's Regner Vincent was just big enough to get fully around both loops on one fill! Well there is a good 300m, maybe closer to 400m, total run!

Thanks to David and his wife for hosting us, for the yummy pizzas, and to the good turnout of WGRG members. It really was a good way to spent some time together.

Pictures from our 2011 visit can be found, as a slideshow/video here www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCpVsMJ3iLw

What a fantastic set of pictures. Thanks for posting them JR. Just one question: what is "summer sun"?

I agree, Lovely pictures, and looks like you had great weather for it.

I'm beginning to forget what nice weather is.

Looks like a magic layout. I have driven past several times but never called in. Might need to next visit- methinks. ;)I am glad all had a good day out. Other feedback confirms the thought.

Wonderful pictures! And the topiary - many hours spent clipping I think. Really enjoyed looking, just the tonic for a freezing morning!

Something we just put up with these here parts. Annoying at times, burns off the grass, you get sunburnt playing trains, you work up a thirst (know cure for that), and buckles your track (unless you have correctly stressed it).
