LGB Porter

Hi Folks just bought a LGB Porter (22771) off fleabay for a rather modest sum  as it has been a bit mucked with. The seller says he had problems with the MTS function so modified it to o_Oo_O work DC and fwd and reverse only saying it will need a new control board to reinstate the DCC. My friends at Grootspur :inlove: have a cheap used LGB 25500 control board that looks very similar to the picture I have found of the Porter card - does anyone know if they would be the same on the assumption that much of the electronics is used across various locos :)

Do you want it analogue or DCC?

On the last page of this link is a diagram with the loco's PCB.

It might help you identify if you have the correct one but it doesn't state if it is a LGB 25500....
Thanks for the link, I have the exploded diagram but that is not too much help. I found this on flea bay but it would be too expensive by the time I got it to the UK and the one at Grootspur looks identical and at 29 Euro a better prospect.

and this is the one at Grootspur (I have emailed them to ask but it tends to take quite some time for them to reply :( )

That will give you DCC control, and replace what is blown / missing in your loco..
My question would be do you want sound?

If so, a Massoth LS would be a better choice, and do away with whatever is already there.

Sound would be nice but I'm not sure I would want to spend such a large chunk of money on this little project - more put it back the way it should be.

Yes, that board is a standard LGB "Small loco decoder", and should be a direct replacement for the one in your Porter. If the Grootspoor one is guaranteed as 100% good, then that should be a perfect plug'n'play fit for you.
Just be careful when removing all the little two, three and four pin CT plugs from your old board, some are a very tight fit and it's very easy to accidentally pull the wires out of the plug rather than the plug out of the socket (yes, I DO know from experience, and yes, I know you should always pull on the plug not the wires - but there isn't a lot of plug to grip on these....)
