LGB 'activated only in parallel. Serial activation is not possible'

I have just purchased an LGB 24741 steam loco that completes complete with factory fitted new style Marklin decoder and MFX sound. In the ?manual? they mention "The functions can be activated only in parallel. Serial activation of the functions is not possible (Please note here the instructions for your controller)."

The only reference I can find to this parallel/serial I can find is that Massoth also refer to it. But no explanantion of the terminology.

I cannot seem to locate any such mention in NMRA DCC spec's or other manufacturer spec's. The DCC data, being sent down 2 rails, is obviously serial data being sent contiguously and within a given range of time.

To what is either LGB or Massoth referring? I am completely stumped.

I have recently purchased a Digitrax Super Chief 8 amp set together with their large N, OO/HO, O/G switchable voltage PSU. This allows programming all CV's with any hex or decimal value in Paged or Direct mode. Hopefully, this means I can cover all programming requirements???

Can anyone shine some light!
Thanks

Serial activation of functions is an old non NMRA standard way LGB had of activating functions.

If you don't have any very old LGB decoders that only supported serial functions then you don't need to worry about the issue. All recent LGB decoders supported parallel functions which is the NMRA standard way of doing things.

Cliff is dead right. Many control systems did support the old Serial protocol but the new Marklin MFX does not. As Cliff says, unless you have decoders that are 20 years old, don't worry about it. - its all Parallel.
