Does anyone at all know how to access the area where the MTS decoder can be fitted? I have practically dismantled the loco to no avail. I just cannot see where it would go. Any help appreciated.20170927_130306.jpg

Can't find anything for it on the Champex-Linden website?

Do you have a photo of any circuit boards inside the loco please....

Is it meant to be a Direct Decoder fit (where the decoder simply plugs onto the loco main board piggy-back style)? If not, then I'd put the decoder in the tender and run a 6-way plug/socket connection between loco and tender (2 x track power, 2 x motor feeds, 2 x front light feeds).....

Jon.

How old Is it?
Does it have a motor in the tender, as well as the loco?
Does it have any of the LGB stickers on the motor-blocks?
What existing electronics is in the Loco? Tender?

A picture tells a 1000 words..

I was with him attempting to fit the decoder. It is brand new. Every screw possible was removed to try and find a circuit board for the decoder, and nothing found. Just ended up putting it all back together for fear of damaging it. Tender UN powered and all stickers are Marklin

Despite appearances these locos are not the same as a Stainz (well internally at least!). All of the variants produced since LGB went bust (2007-) have been single-motor. The only difference with the more recent Märklin versions has been a better paint job. They don't have a circuit board or a decoder interface, I have pulled mine to bits and can confirm this. I think the only option is to wire the decoder into the motor block. I can't remember if the block has the usual four pins to plug a decoder into. As I couldn't be bothered at the time I put it back together and left it. It still hasn't been done, partly because it's pretty underpowered and I have also thought about converting it to battery r/c.

I can confirm there is nothing in the boiler but the headlight wire and a massive weight.
As Martin the Strong mentioned, the circuit board could be inside the weight....

Hi Duncan,

My 22155 came with the direct fit decoder board however my latest Stainz, the Wolfgang Richter special, did not. It had the four pin motor block to which I fitted the Massoth decoder to the pins and housed the decoder in the boiler, well insulated. I also had to connect the front lamp to the decoder. The process is a bit fiddly and the leads are just long enough, but only just.

It is not too difficult to fit a motor in the tender.

Martin

Marklin have sold these with just the front lamp wired direct to the 4 pin motor block.. I'm afraid it's going to be a straight hard wiring job..

The direct decoder board is long gone in to history. Sounds like a rewire job - as Martin says - use the chassis plug.

Which is all good practice because that's often the easiest/best way to go.
