Although Playmobil trains brought me into G gaugescale (I have five PM tank engines - one R/C the rest track powered - one diesel and a 4052 tender loco), my two favourite locos are a couple of LGB 2075 Sprembergers. They are short, so ideal for a shuttle layout or compact round and round one, and have a sturdy, purposeful look to them and run well, both are no later than 1984.
The only external difference between the two is that one has a silver bell and the other a gold one, but internally the one with the silver bell has two terminals on the footplate, something the other does not have.
I raised the question of what these might be for here LGB Spremberger question in 2021 but with no definite answer reached and as I have the body off the silver belled one at the moment to add a crew I decided to investigate further. I had a PP3, 9v battery to hand and connected this to the terminals and the chassis ran easily on a circle of Playmobil plastic track, and did so with a couple of PM trucks in tow as well, which suggests maybe a battery conversion at some time. However, there are no signs of any other alterations or work on the body and chassis as you might expect even if the batteries etc. were in a trailer van.
