Ironstone metre gauge pecket saddle tank

Hi I have finally got round to building the Pecket body kit I purchased from GRS about 10 years ago, the loco is built up on a modified LGB Toy train chassis which has extensions front and rear, the radio is 2.4 Gb mounted in the tank along with a 12V 2600mAh flat 5x2 AA NiMH Battery Pack and Viper speed controller.
The cylinders are brass fabrications with brass slide bars and crossheads. The engine is finished as a Stuarts and Lloyds metre gauge loco, I know its an 0-4-0 and most of theirs were 0-6-0 but its a bit of artistic license.  As a small child I remember the metre gauge Ironstone workings at Irchester and Finedon in Northamptonshire.

What a little cracker I thinks its great !! Is it me or is there a dearth of scratchbuilt and kit models on here these days just seems no one is building much these days !! Please prove me wrong just seems that way!

Very nice indeed, quite jealous.

Gareth, I for one am still building, in fact I have an IP Wickham on the go at the moment, a couple of rolling stock kits waiting and some half complete scratchbuilt flat wagons yet to be given their brake gear. I suspect there is still plenty of other construction going on but for one reason or another the results are not being posted.

Personally, I've got two problems (a) for some reason I can't up load piccies at present (new computer which might expain it); it goes all the way to a point at which it says "Attachment incompatible", leaving me scratching my head and (b) by comparison with something like this I have two thumbs...... :'( I presume there are at least some others with one or other of those problems!

I think we seem to have lost some of the scratch/kit builders from the site - which is a shame.

by comparison with something like this I have two thumbs...... :'( I presume there are at least some others with one or other of those problems!

I'm still at it, but like Steve, in comparison with quality builds such as this, I have ham-fists.

By coincidence, I've just modified my GRS Peckett for battery radio control. But it's nowhere near as pretty and accomplished as this.

Glad to here some of you flying the flag I Must admit have not posted much myself these days busy with work etc ! Not even had time to maintain the railway !! Naughty me !But I am going to make a concerted effort this spring (Weather permitting and work !) But lets keep posting our building effort coach wagon or loco and keep flying the flag Oh and the peckett what a cracker I must admit I like the GRS Kits ! They seem not to do so many now which is a pity in my view but business is business if they don,t sell well !!!!

Nice work Jeremy, backhead detail is real nice. I have a Barrett's kit I got a couple of years ago that I've never started on. I think it's out in the barn. So I have 8 years to go before I catch up with you! :-\

Hi Jerry, thanks for the comment, the Barrett kit is in a different league, will make a superb model well worth pursuing.  My interest in the Pecket saddle tank goes back to the 1960`s when I rode on number 87 at the Irchester mine at age 8, no health and safety then.

This is my attempt at a Peckett 0-6-0ST Ironstone engine. I based her on a couple of photographs that I have of "Scaldwell" the ex-ironstone loco now at the Southwold railway.

I played around with the dimensions until I had something that fitted the chassis I had available (it's a bit short and too symmetrical for a scale model of Scaldwell). Sorry for quality of the photos but I thought I'd chip in with the general theme. Chassis is G scale Lionel unit. I made new brass connecting rods, coupling rods and cylinders and the unit actually does run very sweetly since I took the big plastic gears off the back of the wheels! The body was psycadelic blue and green to start with. New body fully scratch built from plasticard and bits n bobs. Chimney is loose and slipped as I took photo. Obviously there is some way to go yet until finished but she's getting there!
