Introducing the Flowerpot Railway

It's small - very small!
This is the third version of a railway in my garden. In the past I had a G scale LGB layout that took up most of the garden. Then Mr Accucraft tempted me with some live steam locos and rolling stock. Seeing as I was then running 16mm scale trains I sold off all my G scale stuff and converted to SM32. But over the last few years due to illness and other problems the garden and the railway became neglected The only answer was to landscape the garden and make it easy to maitain. This left little room to build another railway but I'm going to have one!:)

I have uploaded to flickr some photos and a short video of the work I have done over the last few months.

Cheers,
Eric

Well worth the wait! Thanks for persevering.
Yep, Looks like I'm "fully fledged" now.
More track and rolling stock in the pipeline. Hope to post more pics in a couple of weeks.

Have you considered at your station siding continuing the track to create a passing siding instead of just a spur? You mention more track on the way just thought I'd throw that suggestion out there.

This reminds me of my old outdoor layout:

Lots of possibilities

Looks like many a pleasant hour could be spent running on your line.
I only re-started in the garden a month ago and have had considerable fun with my small layout.

vsmith......Couldn't help but notice your avatar....

That's my Gn15 layout, with #1 grandson, and your avatar at the Taupo Hobbies Show a few months back.

LOL I love it ...It looks the little girl in the background giving the Dalek what we call a Bronx Cheer!

Like the layout

Pm one of the Mods and they'll post it for you ;) your 90 days is almost up so then you'll have full access.

Not allowed to PM either! Wasn't like this on GSM.:wits:

Sorry about the delays PM'ing and linking, but it's a necessary evil I'm afraid to combat the spammers and other unsavoury characters out on the web.

Nice pics BTW.

Latest developments

The Flowerpot railway is based in an old disused quarry. It has been taken over by a railway preservation trust to restore and operate stock from narrow gauge railways of Europe. Main operations are for the general maintenance of the site. But on weekends and bank holidays we open to the public with passenger services and tours.

The main line has now been extended to the farest reaches of the quarry. (another 2 metres :D)
Transfer siding finished. 2 storage sidings plus headshunt /loco stable area added.

New rolling stock

A two car railbus is now available for passenger services.
New diesel loco for track maintenance.
A new parcel van. (don't know why I bought this - no parcels to carry!)

Further plans

Some buildings and maybe a tunnel at the far end.
More short wheelbase rolling stock.
DCC - Already have LGB central station and Massoth remote and one digital loco.
Need more decoders Maybe sound also.

Neat, a suggestion to go with some buildings, an easy and cheap way to add landscape features to a gravel bed layout is to get your hands on some large and small rocks, They can be piled up to create hill features that buildings and track can be interspaced into Japanese Zen Garden style. On my outdoor layout I used various river rocks from a local construction site, just piled them in my old truck, and used them to landscape our front yard, a side benefit was that I had a good selection to add to the layout to make mini-mountains that look real because, well, they are real rocks.

You can see the in this earliest incarnation of the Mt Fubar & Snafu Junction RR how the rocks really add to the features of the layout.

Man ...I really need to rebuild this

"look real because, well, they are real rocks"

Who would have thought.....................real rocks made to look like.........real rocks. ;D :o
