image.jpeg hi , removed this from a locomotive today , can anyone identify it please , is it a decoder as I have just trawled the net and can't see anything like it .many thanks

Yep, DG583, the plug'n'play pins make it an AR (ie. for Aristocraft) I like these decoders. What have you used instead in the loco - upgraded to sound perhaps?

Removed body to see if anything was amiss , found this , ,removed it as I have no digital equipment to try it ,

Ok different tack , what controllers can I use to try this for function , it was bought second hand and tried with a Dimax Navigator but would not respond , I think the decoders dead , I bought this loco as non functioning

Confused, you have no digital equipment (post #6) but then tried a Dimax Navigator? What was the Navigator attached to? If you have a Navigator (with a Massoth Base Station) you can read the decoder. If that is the case then the decoder is probably set to a number that you do not know.

Out of interest, what loco is it? Usually with the plug'n'play decoders in Aristo or Bachmann locos you'll need to replace the decoder with a dummy bridging plug (or even a full board) in order for it to run on DC.

It's a 66 , yes noticed that as I read the owners manual , don't have one so going to swap it over from the other loco to see if I can get it to run on an analogue track

Owner before me tried it on a DCC Set up, but couldn't get the loco to move , I purchased as a non runner , this will probably end up Radio Controlled

Ok so you do not have DCC. Think about Battery, I have been in Garden Railways a long time. Currently a mix of DCC, Battey and Live Steam.

If I were starting out new I would be seriously looking at Battery Radio Control. Plus Live Steam if you want it later.

Just think it through.
