Ideas for scratch building a platform shelter

I'm thinking of scratch building a shelter based on the following. It's a small (long gone!) station in West Yorkshire. I figured it's a fairly basic shape to start with!!

I'm not sure I'll go for all the detail in the woodwork, but I was thinking of a solid base. Maybe cast the base in concrete and paint? Anyone suggestions on what they've tried etc?
