I wonder if I've been defrauded out of an item I won on ebay?

Unfortunately although I won some P/M station items they are not forthcoming.

I've contacted the seller with varying degrees of patience but all to no avail.

Why do people do that?

Part of the problem with ebay is that you have to deal with real people, and while some people are straightforward and honest, some others believe that duplicity and double-dealing is the only way to succeed in this world - sad but true.

There are times when we all get strung along on evilbay. Back in my early days of G scale, I won an LGB caboose at a nice price, only for the seller to say sorry, but it was out of stock. Two weeks later I saw it re-advertised and created merry hell. When I threatened to report them to evilbay, they relented and sold it to me at my original auction purchase price claiming that the couple had just split up and the wife didn't know what the ex-husband was doing ..................... yeah, yeah, yeah :punch::punch:

One of the rules of EBay is that if there are two winning bids of the same value, the earlier bid wins. I once had the situation where my bid went in several days before the other bidder, yet the seller accepted the later bid as the winner. I complained to the seller but did not get the courtesy of a reply.

How can you have two winning bids of the same value? ebay operates automatically so that to win, you have to outbid the previous bid - n'est-ce-pas?

EBay software decides the winner, the seller can only go along with what eBay decides. EBay decides that the earliest bid wins so if you say it didn't in your case then your beef would be with eBay not the seller.

You can have two bids of the same value but not two winning bids, there is only one winner.

The winner is the highest bid. If you put in an early bid of a maximum of say £10 and towards the end you are the top bidder at say £8, as the auction closes another bidder snipes with a bid of £10, at close of auction you end up with two top bids of £10. Under those circumstances the winner should be you with the early maximum bid not the sniper who came in at the end.

Sarah despite all if the trundling off in separate directions on this thread,.

You have bought something it has not been recieved. Ebay, hopefully PP will should refund your money end of.

Have you paid, you don't make that clear ? If so how ? If you have used PayPal then just contact them and you will be refunded once the usual checks have been made. If you have used another method then go through Ebay's complaint procedure. Why do they do it ? - Go back to the first question or accept there are con artists out there. Caveat emptor. Max

Sarah, does the seller give an indicated date for delivery? Has this date passed? (I guess it may have as you have opened this thread.)

On the item description does it anywhere say that the seller is on holiday and so delivery may be delayed?

The problem sometimes is the seller will not send an invoice therefore the buyer can't make the payment. The specific shipping cost is not always specified in the listing especially if overseas.
It then looks like the buyer has refused payment.
I've had dealers play dumb and expect me to pay them directly outside of eBay rather than via PayPal.

If you have paid for your item on eBay and the date for shipment has come and gone, you shoud contact the seller and then immediately open a case for reimbursement. I've had to do that several times in the past few years. eBay will give you your money back, including shipping costs.

Something similar happened to me twice a few years ago. I got refunds but together with a couple of wrong items supplied it has put me off ebay.

Update 31/10/2018 - refund received from ebay for the item plus P&P.

I would much rather have had the item.

Thanks for all the posts.

Yeah, I know what you mean - but some people just don't care if they p*** you off.

Never mind, you can have fun searching again :devil::devil::devil::devil:
