i have a new loco

With track power, you remove oxidation (tarnish) from the rails to improve conductivity.

All the stuff you have described, dog, dirt, water, etc. will impact running no matter what you use. Battery operated trains will still move but dirt, twigs, leaves will derail ANY loco.

I clean my track with a swiffer, and a car with a rotating brush.

oh yes but not deep cleaning

They first came out with chrome wheels from REA then reintroduced with black (cruddy) wheels with an added slope back tender from AristoCraft. The motor blocks are separate for each driver axle.
The REA ones have a brittle sounding plastic and the AristoCraft ones, the plastic sounds more dense.
They were based on the locomotives used on elevated city railways in the USA. The cab is large therefore sits well along side other narrow gauge stock.

This Cuban cane loco looks similar

will probably go great with any logging locomotives (if i can find a bachmann shay for a reasonible price though i will likely just build garratts, mallets, and electric locos until then)
