Too much of a good thing is nearly enough.

Has anyone been watching this pair of Pullmans on Ebay, they have been going round and round continuously since last April.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LGB-34650-ALP...lway_Models&hash=item5639b5c81c#ht_2104wt_905
and
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LGB-CIWL-GOLD...lway_Models&hash=item335a2f292d#ht_2129wt_905

Well now another pair have arrived marginally cheaper at £249 each :

and

Dont these sellers realise they are not going to sell at these prices and they are just wasting the insertion fees. At least if they had an auction start price of say £175 the market could decide, and at £150 I may even have had one myself.

Its a dealer hoping some idiot will jump in and pay his BIN price. Obviously no one has. The trouble is these dealers are used to having stock in stock for months or years - but it eventually sells at a high price - maybe.
Best thing is to ignore all BINs - nearly all dealers. Ebay love them and encourage them - obviously, they keep paying insertion fees.
Time and patience and most things turn up at a reasonable price.

Yea but, no but?

It's nearly Christmas, innit....

And at those prices they will still be there next christmas at least for me:bleh:

I have had dealings with that seller previously, if I really didn't want the rake of coaches so much I would have told him to stuff it. The postage was inflated when I bought them, but then he refused to send them unless I paid more postage. It was only as I wanted them so much that I agreed.

Its like that Harz 2-6-2 thats been on ebay for ages at over £600. No takers - but oneday - who knows.
Just dont think this is the current going price - it aint. Picked up a perfect example - with sound and decoder for £375 a few months ago - and I considered that 'close' to a no go.

Times must be hard for him. A pair of ex parkside railway coaches have now been reduced to £199.50. He wanted a lot more for them 6 months ago.

As i have goten older increasingly i ask the question "how do some people earn a living doing what they do"? because often the maths doesnt seem to stack up
we all like to buy a bargin and if they were ours we would want as much as possible for them because we would convice ourselves they were rare which they are compared to other stock
Those dealers offset the fees against tax so it matters not how long they keep them
As for me i start everything at 99p and let it sell for whatever and 9x out of 10 it sells for more than someones BIN price

and my proof
These i bought at auction 2 years ago before i became addicted to garden railways (wouldnt of sold them now lol)
i bought 8 of them 4 brown and 4 red all mint boxed in 2 lots of 4 and paid £200 for each lot of 4 plus 17% started one at 99p no reserve
with the option of the winner buying the other 7 at the same price 20 bids later the one sold for £245 and the same buyer bought all 8
makes me weep now

That is contrary to Ebays rules.
I had a German seller try that a couple of years ago, I refused to pay more and he sent the item at the original p/p charge which I noted was more than the actual postage he paid.
Too many rip off agents around.

those brown CC pullmans are gorgeous
were they the only version with red tail lights built in?

I totally agree with you Steve, the brown CC Pullmans are superb. I already have the set augmented by three 'standard' Pullmans which make a wonderful rake in my eyes. I wouldnt turn down the chance to have any others at a reasonable price to add to them, which is why these caught my eye, but the current high prices have put an end to such ideas.

THAT - is a very nice train Sir!

looks simply stunning against the green-and five lovely long coaches-a real train!
i think that is wonderful-it must be a sight at night too

my own fantasy is the brown with the green and red pinstriped french mikado-as mentioned, too rich for me now

could you be so kind as to post a nice detail shot or three of those tail lights?
i presume they are a stock LGB lantern with a rear wall hole for the lamp (not a bottom feed)

-would like to do the same on my 'peasant stock', ie HqrBn and Schollenbahn coaches

I guess they are worth what ever you are happy to pay .
