Helmut Grosshans' classic book on his wonderful LGB layout - "Meine Geliebte Lehmann-Gross-Bahn" - a German online bookstore has several copies in mint, new condition. Most of the "old hands" on here have probably already got copies in their libraries (either the German or English version), but if anyone hasn't got it then grab one now at a very reasonable price:

Published in 1991, these copies are brand new hardbacks, still shrink-wrapped. The dealer seems to have a number of copies, I assume they may have bought a boxful of old stock from somewhere, possibly even LGB ex-Nurnberg stock?. I've just got one from them which arrived today, very reasonable postage rate (it took just over a week to arrive).

There was, of course, an edition in English which is probably more desirable, but I've only seen these for quite silly prices (and/or with ludicrous shipping costs from the US) - but there are so many wonderful pictures in it that I'm quite happy with the German text version, especially at around 16 quid including shipping.

If you don't already have it, I can wholeheartedly recommend both the book and the seller.

I suspect they have more, and put them up on ebay in batches..... I was a little worried at how long mine was taking to arrive (impatience on my part, expecting it to be 2-3 days!) and when I emailed them to ask when it had been dispatched, I was told that even if it got lost they would replace it, as they "had plenty more".

i have the english version-and it was very inexpensive-like $5 or $9 US as i recall
the text is not bad at all-more an insight into the man and his rr philosophy as well as some troubleshooting tips and advice -nice but not essential as the book really isnt a how to-BUT FOR his rather amazing marshaling yards (for which there is a schematic)-these yards would randomly dispatch any number of made up trains from a silo -like storage area-so he could sit and simply watch 'new' trains trundle across his garden in no repeating order

the book is interesting indeed -especially if you simply like to look at lgb items
and sometimes this is exactly what i like to do-sort of a vicarious thrill

historically, this book is interesting as well-it must predate any type of LGB track relay-as he invented his own in order to do some very fancy automatic train control

also he has some unique custom locos-and
some unique cars one of which i can think of was later 'stolen' and prodiced by lgb-a US style flat with 3 wine barrels
also his own version of a 2085 converted to a Junker
as well as the Uintah mallet-to name what i can from memory

this is rather entertaining even as translated-
it is archaic in many regards-especially technically-and it is strictly analog and electromechanical

this man clearly loved trains of all countries and he ran 'trains' of many types out of his marshalling yards -like a passing pageantry of diverse railroads-US, austrian, hawaiian, mexcian, and many others

the book is entertaining if for nothing than looking at his own melds of rolling stock-he made long coaches for continental trains that LGB didnt

his garden is mostly rail and virtually no buildings -some landscaping and minimalist (i think due to a recurring vandalism issue)

Possibly not even one left now  unless he has more "waiting in the wings".
