Grooved tram line

tramcar trev

all manner of mechanical apparatus...
A chap told me he he knows a chap who rolls custom brass sections so I thought "Hmmmm maybe some real grooved tram line would look nice". Anyway I'mm googling "grooved rail" etc etc... to get the chap a "shape" to work with and this youtube video pops up, imagine my horror when I expected to see flanged wheels running on grooved rail.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfcFLgLLBvY Yet another item you have to put in the category of "I've seen it all now".

Oh if you are still interested here is a discussion on Grooved rail...

Well, I shall never be able to look at a bit of tram track in the same light again. Or at a camel for that matter <shudder>

Good god; I don't suppose a looser fitting would have been a more appropriate response? And what exactly did you put in your search engine Trev? - I put "grooved rail" into mine and got the expected techinical and commercial issues relating to the item you were seeking, at least in 1:1 scale, not what you found!

(Mind you, I think it may be just a rebadged cricket box)

Good Grief! For once in my life, totally speechless ......

I had gone through the grooved rail bit and was onto trying to find a dimensioned profile and I just forgot what I put in the search string...
What I do find intriguing is that women have so little on their minds they worry about problems of such little consequence. Judging from the responses here men don't even worry about camels unless as a means of transport..... But I do confess to have just bought a lightweight backpack at Rivers and its in "Camel" colour.... Might be some deep seated psychological connection....

Exactly! Loose fitting clothes paper over the cracks and avoid the bag of onions look (or whatever).:rolf::rolf::rolf::rolf::rolf:

Anyway Trev, did you find what your'e looking for?

Yep! I just wanted to get the proportions somewhere near right but for reasons of practicality I think the groove is going to have be wider than I would like maybe I'll make the head wider than scale to make the groove look thinner, then go over the lot with a groove smoother :o:
I will draw up a profile and see how much it's going to cost, it may be more practical to invest in say 100 metres and then sell of any balance and there would be a lot left over. I only intend to use it in areas where the rail is laid in a street.... Means ripping up a lot of track I have already laid but I think it would look really good....
