I am looking for a GP38 Locomotive for our planned Maine Central line.

Here is the link to the USA Trains model: USA Trains GP 38-2

MEC ran 13 GP38s, and it fits the timeframe we are considering for our line.

If you have a lead, please let me know. Thanks!

If you Google 'usa trains gp38' you will get quite a few hits.. Most in the US..

Sorry. I realize I wasn't clear. I'll edit my post. I'm specifically looking for the USA Trains R22228 GP 38-2 Diesel, Maine Central, Yellow/Green model.

Ah! Now you are getting 'picky'.. ;)

You may-well wait a long-time, for a specific livery..
The alternative, is to get the airbrush out, or pay for someone to do a custom repaint.

I am personally going to produce an A-B (or Cow and Calf?) in BN livery. But presently, the project resembled a breakers yard! :(

Good luck!

lol

I know, but I figured it didn't hurt to put it out there. :-) I have considered an undecorated GP 38, but if someone had one they wanted to move along...well...

Ultimately we're planning three distinct areas to our layout with Boston & Maine running freight south, Maine Central (The Pine Tree Route, especially the Mountain Division) running in some challenging terrain, and the Bangor & Aroostook running north.

That could be a tricky one to get. As an alternative you could email USA Trains and see if they have a spare body in the livery you want. Then all you need is any GP38 as a doner.

I had not thought of that! Good call. I could also get an undecorated GP38 and a decal set, but with the new railway just in the design phase, I think we'll have enough on our plates! ;-)

I've never seen one in that livery I would imagine only a small number were made.

I suspect you are right.

We are planning our railway in three parts, and the first part will feature the far more readily available Boston & Maine section, so we have some time. Also, because Boston & Maine was acquired by Guilford Transportation, which also had MEC in its portfolio c. early 1980s (which is the timeframe we are targeting), we can always have some B&M GP9s (that appear to be readily available) moving MEC cars until we get ahold of an MEC GP38.

Probably best to contact all the model shops in New England as most were probably sold there.

They remind me of my holiday job in Maine 28 years ago!

If you find a source of decals (or someone who can make sets for other roads) I would be interested..

I think the USA Trains loco's are 'Tampo' printed? :(

Have you tried emailing Hans at Gold Coast Station? He has lots of G scale stuff in his two shops. I had a nice chat with him and bought a few items some years ago when I was on holiday in California.
