Obscure petrol-head joke.. Well, maybe..

V configuration engine of 50 cylinders per bank..
Merlin = Rolls Royce Merlin engine (as in the Spitfire)... Makes the most glorious sound in the world! 12litre V12.

now phil how do you like your merlins, single as in supermarine spitfires or in 4 ie avro lancasters

I think these days I would be ill in the Spitfire! :( :o
Nothing but awe for the Lancaster crews.. If you were unlucky enough to be shot-down, and had to crawl your way out of one in a dive..
Been up in a Lancaster. - Previous existence and employer. Duxford, 75 years of Rolls Royce. We were in the middle. Got blow-dried by Concorde!

I now see the connection re Merlin, I know the sound you refer to quite often get them over here ( Ref Airbus Broughton / Hawarden)

And Concorde, as a Concorde passenger I am still sad not to see them in the air.

Still all this has not detracted me from the urge to buy an LGB V100!

I know Caroline who has the 2 seater spitfire

http://www.ml407.co.uk/ met her at TG Avaition at Manston

Hm Steve, sorry cant help there as I have the same urge. With the dissapointment of my Pko Kamel due to the cruddy Wheels that are not able to be replaced yet, well not untill they do a replacement bogie with the Type 7 Wheels. The V100 would step in as a very acceptable Kamel Replacement. NG Centre Buffer and some odd mods to the Paint plus perhaps the retractable Buffers and it will do the business.

Yes I know that it is only a BoBo rather than a CoCo, but with Sound at Glendale for £379 it is a complete steal.

Steve, have you considered a pair of them?

Ebay Shops Germany V 100 £272, £294, + shipping varies £8 to around £15 to the UK that is. obviously no further charges for importing from the EU

Not sure what the situation with New Zealand would be though.

For narrow gauge, would not a V51 be more appropriate? http://gbdb.info/details.php?image_id=1106

Yes V51 would be more appropriate but its not currently in production so no new ones available ( except perhaps the blue one which does not appeal!)

I have had 3 or 4 V 51s over the years, one I bought would not pull more than 8 axles !! the reason being it had no traction tyres!, probably a slip up at the assembly stage which in the Nurenberg days was quite unusual, a quickly received a replacement traction tyred axle though!

Thanks, yes I had one of these and got rid of it, somehow it is a loco that I am not too fond of. The Sound was just not clarery Diesel enough. So if I get the V100 it will be a bit defferent when NG'd. Plus this is a litle more in my line of liking:-

Whether I will do a complete bash to a lookalike not sure. But the V100 will be appearing soon. It is just at the price cap of being something that I am prepared to think about hacking. How I justify it on the Harz is another matter! Worry worry fret fret, or perhaps it can be a Rule 1 beast.

That V29 is a mini croc.

Sort of, but a Crock need Rods. I think that Aligator is the correct term for a Bendy Fronted Loc without Rods.

Looking at the V100 and prototype pics, I think that the flexible rule has come into play.moerhaps the reason that I like it as it is somewhat shortened to my eye. This I think adds to its attraction. Any others see this?

One of the German G scale mags (can't recall which, will have to look through the back issues...) had a feature a couple of years back on a very limited-run "garage kit" of a V29.... looked rather nice.... :)
