Yesterday I had a chance to get one of my Geese out. It is an Accucraft version of Goose number 6. Although the 'Geese' were built and used by the Rio Grande Southern ('RGS') I have always liked the whole idea of how and why they were built (much like a lot of narrow gauge lines across The States and even similasr in Europe and elsewhere in the world).
Antway the Goose 6 is really a rail based pick-up. Accucraft have reperesented the chain drive very well as with the rest of the truck.
This is one of my 'loco' roster that will may be weathered, even if does look a little too clean!

Do you ever get any golden eggs from them

I will have a look tomorrow Richie.......... I feel that there is about as good a chance as finding a lottery win methinks! :rolf:

Thanks for the comment Ross......one tries......:bigsmile:

by the way your DVDs will be in the post tomorrow lads...........................

Cheers Mike will keep a eye out for post
I see on you pics that your new ballasting looks very nice and clean  Had to spend the day clearing my line of dead conifer with the garden vac after all the strong winds we had the other week . Could do with replacing some of my ballast .

You been blasting the ballasting.....or ballasting the blast...or ballast blast...........

splendid-
mike you do a great job of using familiar buildings and products and creating an original scene and a great mood or setting-so much to look at

have actually sat in 6 at the colo rr museum-rather rickety old thing even after refurb
and, pray tell, who makes the c and s reefer we see with the end printing in one of the pics please sir?

Hi Steve
Thanks for the comments
The C&S reefer is one that I got back in 2006 when I was collecting kit but had no real idea what line, era etc that I was really going to model.
It is an outside braced box car. It is a USA Trains one that they do not seem to do in C&S any more. It is long overdue for a bit of weathering.
Here is another shot of it

Hmmmm your track looks really dirty - in the totally realistic sense....... And the Goose looks track powered, so the obvious question is - is this specially made conductive dirt?
Love the Goose BTW!!!

Hi Trev
He he , no the track is clean (well it is now eh Richie?) it is either painted:
matt red oxide and matt grey (on the Aristo type in the Beaver Creek station and yard area.
OR
muddy mix of matt red oxide and matt dark brown on other areas
OR
even just the good old LGB patina from the high lead content in their track (as opposed to Aristo which stays brass coloured due to a higher copper ratio)

Before placing the track on the layout,
I now paint any type of oil onto the sleepers except near the track ties (so paint does not adhere).
Then just wrap a little masking tap aropund the end (joiners and place where joiners will slip onto)
then spray the whole track with the colour(s) of choice,
then quickly wipe off the paint from the top of the rail (I have found pieces of cardboard seems to work best at this).

For points/switches I mask off the point blades and stock rails where they will need to be in contact. Also mask any sliding contact places.
It is much quicker than it sounds and it does help the rail to 'fit' in either as a realistic device or to fit in with the ballast that I chose for an area of the garden, for instance the red/pink/grey aggregate in the Beaver Creek station yard area.

Your layout will be a real goody when it is completed. The track plan looks excellent!

At the risk of boring you folks, here are a couple more Goosey piccies

Good thing about the galloping geese was that they were very easy to fix when things went wrong.....

Like it Mike. Could this be the start of the "Gee-no" picture comic? Perhaps they could have a section on the Central or a slot in Garden Rail.

Maybe one day I might weather the goose but I like it how it is for the mo.
