Its been a record setting wet spring and early summer.
a few days ago, i treated myself to a trip to the mountains and day hike. Roads and trails were as empty as I remember in 1972 due to on/off rain.

and, a ride and mine tour.

An outside framed 2-8-0 baldwin.

an unusual cart, non original to the mine.
oddly, it has a crude g scale loop and 2 mine portals

Noteworthy, to me in my many decades of riding trains, a woman brakeman.

GLRR no longer has the 3 truck Westside shay.
it had 3 rod locos, none indigenous to the historic rr, and 4-5 diesels.

Birdseye fromthe Devils Gate bridge of the Georgetown station siding.
creek is unusually high with rain and snow melt.
Air smelled of pines and rain and steam engine exhaust….

It could be argued that you were more interested in someone else's outside frame than the Baldwin :cool:

How does the Baldwin compare to Bachmann's Connie?

Did the GL in 1994 on a mega tour including lots of Colorado Railways and Museums. Before current operators of the GT, loco was a Shay back then but not such interesting brakesperson.

Alas, my true, dog-like nature has not yet fully faded with age. And is transparent, it seems, from my photos.....

nonetheless, a splendid day out

i do not own the B-Mann Connie, so i am not as familiar with its details as if i did own one, and what recollection i have is from decades ago (I passed on the Connie at the time, had a bad taste from my original 36t Shay with it original plastic trucks. ANd , it seems the Connie had gear issues?? and some issue re the footplate and the tender -loco distance and accommodating curves??? it is otherwise a very appealing , if non-Colorado NG loco. My later manufactured B-Mann locos are superb, but stupidly delicate).

The GRR Baldwin, #40, is similar. I believe it is a standard gauge loco regauged to 3ft.

I do know that #40 came from South America, and it seems to me that the Connie was also based on a Central/South American Baldwin. The Connie's smoke box center mount headlight was common on Mexican NG steam, and apparently, elsewhere south of the border too.
