Obviously all the money is up in the North West, my meagre public sector pension can't come soon enough.
IF I hadn't bought the December continental modeller and IF I hadn't seen the article on Swiss signalling this might not be happening... I think I've rushed into LGB from American outline without the common thread that James suggests. Would the MOB at Bay6 fit in with Rhb?
Like the idea of a loco lending library - where do I sign up!

They're also totally different models? The Ge4/4 III is a metre gauge swiss prototype, used only on the metre gauge system, with a central buffer. The Taurus is a standard gauge prototype used by a whole variety of operating companies across Europe, standard buffers and coupling gear - even a diesel version in a similar body shell IIRC?

I agree with James here, but just to confuse things a bit LGB supply a central buffer to fit to their models of their standard gauge prototypes. I fitted this to my SBB Cargo class 481 - not prototypical for the RhB but I like the livery! The pantographs on this loco are a bit plasticky and not motorised as they are on most of the Ge 4/4 IIIs. I can now confess to having 10 of the latter (all different), the latest acquisition being Lanxess acquired last year. They're great locos and seem robust as well as tolerant of indifferent track.

I think we've had the discussion before, but I confess to not having any overhead equipment despite the line being dominated by RhB electrics. I imagine the wires, all locos always run with a pan up - to me an electric running with pantographs down looks far less realistic than one running with pantographs up but no wires! On a ground level garden line, apart from the expense, the potential for damage by the mower, falling twigs and itinerant moggies have never convinced me to try. I have an HOm line indoors with full catenary and that amply demonstrates another problem - cleaning the track under the wires ...

Cheers mark - something I hadn't considered was track cleaning, although I guess it might be easier in G scale. I like the Cargo livery myself, the DB mainline model does seem cheaper than the Ge's but the more I read up on the Rhb the more I like it. I must get there before it's my time to leave!
PS If my numbers come up to tonight it's Allegra's for everyone, a la Bubbles de Vere

Should be fine as most LGB stock is designed to run on R1 and it is a bogie loco after all?

Although it might look a little odd on such a tight curve and larger radii would look better....

Have you tried using it on R2 curves that run on the outside of R1 curves? I was wondering if the middle of the GE4/4 III would hang over the R2's and get hit by a loco or coach running on the R1 curves.

well, yes... i have actually.. , the southwood curve, is r1 inside, r2 out side, and , PRovided you keep the correct spacing between the two tracks ,no problem...
back at the beginning of lgb3, i spent time checking clearances, i used the 2-10-2.. big arse.. and my pullman coaches ..to make sure i was ok.. seems to have worked out ok..
just keep the gap..

Not a GE4/4 III, I know but these are 2 pix of V52 locos, with hoppers and bogie flats on my old railway which had R1/R2 curves.

You can see there is plenty of room for the `6 foot`.

For info, track centres for R1/R2 should be 165 mm and for R3/R4/R5, 185 mm....
