Forum Advertising - Who Selects/Filters?

The adverts don't worry me as I don't even notice them. When I do glance at them they are invariably for for things I have just bought or holidays at places I have just been to.

For a while I waged my own little war on the ads till I got bored with it. I just clicked the "close" X and the "stop seeing this ad" and when offered the choice I clicked "irrelevant" and all ads of a similar nature were not shown again. Most of the ads were for stuff I had looked at eg hotels and ebay items. SWMBO gets the same stuff on her book face pages.
Now I just ignore them can't afford to buy stuff with the exchange rates and postage costs anyway.

For £10 I can ignore the adverts - I ignore them everywhere else, why should this website be different
