Well it proves one thing: at 58.75 your eyesight is better than mine
I mean I gave up Z (damn, he'll be here like a flash) because I couldn't see it then thought OO9 would do, same problem. Now, if ever I can't see G I think I'll be in a wooden box. :rolf:

What can you get for a garden railway for 20p?

Have a look in oddments boxes and toy collections at boot sales and markets. In the past (admittedly mostly while on holiday in France) I've scored a dustbin, and several individual G scale figures (sometimes needing a little re-dressing - two looked like something out of Startrek, but had their suits remodelled with filler to make them into bib-and-braces overalls - all for around 25/30 cents each which is near as dammit 20p.

Thanks for the encouragement lads.

As you might have seen in the 'Track' thread, I've ordered the Piko loop and sidings - so once that's here, I'm off and running (well, walking a bit fast anyway).

The reason for the 20p is that my last layout was Z scale and on another forum, that I'm a member of, is populated by OO/HO modellers and they needed a reference point - so I used a 20p. Since then, anyone posting a picture of something that isn't OO/HO has to include 'the forum 20p piece'.

This is the picture that started it off:

YIKES! I'm surprised you still have EYES left...nice model, good choice on the Pikie track.

I think that's brilliant - not sad! I had to look twice (thats why I had to go G Scale!). Well done.

Found these pictures of 20p people

in which case we might be worried
If there was enough of us we could stand round you for a Teletubbie-style Big Hug.

Shouldn't that be coat, sliding doors, transporter room?

or Chief Zed, so start worrying just in case :nail:

And as for your last comment, it's along the lines of "let's all join hands and see if we can circumnavigate Z", so I may just have to visit and see if your bar can be drunk dry  Went to Canada once on the strength of an advert

It was a nice day today, so I laid my indoor track outside, on bricks so that the track was at the same level as the bonsai trees. I wanted an idea of how it will look on the 'proper' layout (when the track arrives!):

I don't think it looks too bad, as a start...

That looks great - brill photo.

You beat me getting the track outside!
Ive got no bricks or wood in my locker.

It's a dead cheap Sanyo Xacti 'Digital Movie Camera' wot I got from Argos about 3 years ago Mez. It's stood the test of time and has never (touch wood) let me down. Most of my YouTube vids are made with the same bit of kit. The film editing software package that came with it is good as well.

I thought I'd post some pictures of how the railway is getting on - but I've just seen the rest of the newly posted pictures on this thread and I'm not so sure now :(. My little railway isn't quite up to your standards, but s+d it, here goes!

The track finally turned up last Thursday (Darren at Slotsn'Trains apologised profusely - he got my address wrong) and so I laid it out on the area of the patio that I have 'borrowed'. It's going to depict a simple 'afternoon out with the kids' type ride-on railway - hence the extra bricks providing the road to the station:

Today was nice and sunny so I got down to infilling the voids with potting compost:

I then started to add the ballasting but when I did, I had this terrible urge to wear a Hi-Viz jacket! Working at this scale means you have to lay and tamp each bit of track - just like the real thing.

Tomorrow will see me finishing off the ballast in between the sleepers and generally tidying up.

After that, it's getting down to making the station platform, the roadway and the swings and roundabouts that I hope will make it come to life.
