First Garden Railway of Tom (aged 58 and three quarters)

My embryo garden railway.

It arrived today . I was surprised that the incredibly heavy loco had a light, a smoke unit and was ready for a DCC chip - I don't remember the Hattons advert mentioning all that!

Set it up and took a photo which included a 1:24 Bedford Duple OB coach and a 20p piece for scale comparison (don't ask why 8|):

If thats Bachmann stamped steel track...dont use it outdoors, it will rust away in no time. Start picking up some good brass track, LGB, Piko or Aristo/USA or whoever. even buying a little at a time adds up eventually.

You can't fool us Ol' Tom,
I've Google Earthed your address and your back garden looks just like Clapham Junction with the River Forth bridged and tunnel portals both sides of the river Severn.... no flys on me!

Rob (63 and a tiddly bit)

Great start mate!

Like Nemo, I've been at it for 10 years too and I have never regretted it....

Gizzy (not yet got to 50, but it ain't far away!)

Thanks for the encouragement lads.

As you might have seen in the 'Track' thread, I've ordered the Piko loop and sidings - so once that's here, I'm off and running (well, walking a bit fast anyway).

The reason for the 20p is that my last layout was Z scale and on another forum, that I'm a member of, is populated by OO/HO modellers and they needed a reference point - so I used a 20p. Since then, anyone posting a picture of something that isn't OO/HO has to include 'the forum 20p piece'.

This is the picture that started it off:

Yes, that's a 1:220 scale model of a 2' 6" gauge mining track. How sad is that?

We've all been there, I've ordered a whatever:rolleyes: and then folled by another something, and then another, and then another. Before long a nice sized layout is there in front of you:thumbup::thumbup:

Keep it up and keep them pics coming:thumbup:
