Ebay searches

Over the last few days my ebay searches have gone haywire.
When I type my usual "LGB" and instruct it to search in Toys and Games I get thousands of search results from USA and Europe.
Using Advanced Search I restrict it to "within 100 miles" of my postcode and/or set it to "UK only" results in my getting just 8 or 9 hits.
Can anyone suggest how to reset the search to normal parameters?

They seem to have introduced a new search mechanism. Must admit I don't like it, it won't let me do searches in the way I'm used to. I don't get an easy way to move and down sub-categories and turn off the "gauge" filter for example, it's too eager to revert to "all categories" which is not what I want.

From what I've read on the net it was forced on ebay.com late last year, and folk over there found it easier to do their searches via ebay.co.uk but now the've forced it on us too.

I've filled in very negative feedback about it but don't except anything will change.

Thanks, was beginning to think that it was just me!

Hi Keith. As a (very) regular user of ebay I've just investigated further. My normal approach is to select the following:
BUY from the top line next to the GO box - ignore the drop-down, just hit enter.
Scroll down to the Collectables section and expand.
Select Trains/Railway Models and hit enter.
In the left hand options select G gauge and hit enter. Should bring up all listings with postage option to UK.
Refine search to UK only and hit enter. I then re-sort to 'newly listed'.
My next step is to SAVE SEARCH so it can be recalled in that format at any time. If you wish to restrict results further by inputting your postcode then OK, but the UK only option will give you 700 to 800 hits. That way you don't miss something very tempting more than a set distance away.

Your posting suggested this option would possibly no longer work but I've tried with a slightly different subject and it's produced the results I had anticipated. Hope this helps.

Mike

I have had the following reply from eBay -
"With regard to searching items for UK only, let me clarify to you that the system does not limit on any searches. It just so happen that the number of items that is only for sale on the specific item you wish to purchase, is only up to 7 to 8 hits, the search results will only increase if there will be more seller who want to sell a similar item."
If you believe this then there are only 7-8 LGB items for sale on eBay in the UK!!!!!!!!!!!
I have told them what I think of their 'explaantion'.

Thanks Mike I will try what you suggest howver, if nobody else is experiencing the problem then it must be a setting on my PC.

i go to the ebay homepage.. and type lgb in.. 1,776 items showing

I have just got 7 UK results out of only 80 in total, the rest being USA or Germany.
Looks as if it must be a setting on my laptop. :-&::@

Have you tried using "Advanced Search" with "Currency" set to "Pound Sterling" ?

I have just tried eBay in the same way I have always done for several years, typing in LGB in the search bar on my eBay homepage, then selecting trains/railway models, (this brought up over 500 entries) this is further refinable if other sectors such as locos are selected.
Nothing appears to have changed.

I just blame Fred. It's easier that way.

That is distinctly odd - I have tried again and it is working perfectly yet I haven't changed anything since my last attempt.:wits:

I second that Bah Humbug - it was fine how it was and now it just doesn't quite work the way I want it to.
