Just thought I would start a thread  for some pictures of double heading.
Running Massoth digital, I dont usually use the double head feature but put one loco on the main rotary control and the second on the `buttons`.

Heavy weights today. ;D

Can anybody join ? Odd combo live steam + battery on the same stick on a Spectrum DX6. Trick - the live steamer is piston valved and can be controlled on the reverser alone. Fun.

A few years ago, before forumite main 131 had radio control fitted to his Accucraft live steam NGG 16, We double headed it with my electric LGB/Aster NGG 13. As the latter was track powered via an Aristo Crest  Train Engineer it could be used to assist the live steamer or increase the load on it.

Arrr. Twin Rugens - lovely.

Funnily, we were out running today and the Baldwin, which is usually on passenger duties, was operating a train of scrap metal and logs.  All a bit heavy for the engine.  It came to a slipping and sliding halt in East Burnham station.  The Milne 0-4-0, number 21 was dispatched to rescue it, providing some photos for this excellent thread.

Ah, can`t help myself now. Annie up front C-19 behind with a rake of stock cars. Have run in D&RGW prototypical style - one up front - one in the middle -one at the rear. I did a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-Yv2rQqxWY&feature=youtu.be
The train in the video has a K-27 in the front, C-19 in the middle and the Annie at the back

I have had the situation where I had to double, triple or even quad head trains to get a decent rake up my inlines.
After bashing some ordinary rolling stock into `motorised helpers` the triple and quad stuff is now only done for specials like when dragging a rake of heavy aluminium streamline passenger cars up the gradient (I can`t really bring myself to `bash` and motorise those little beauties).

LGB`s Genesis units lead a modern day `Zephyr`....I wish that one manufacturer would do models of the New sleeper cars etc (like the `Great Trains` company versions of years back)

Fantastic photo's Mike :D

I have always loved the sight of double and triple locos on the front of a train.
Here are a couple of shots from last summer of some freights. The line has a gradients so they do have to work.
