Hi all, just thinking about options for chipping my Swiss driving van trailers. I know they've both got interfaces to suit an lgb 55020/1 chip, but it seems a waste and unnecessary expense to use a motor driver decoder in a none driven application. Has anybody used any other type of decoder for this application? Functions required are directional lighting, interior lighting and possibly interior cab lighting. :)

I've used both Zimo MX685 and MX686 function decoders for various jobs. The MX685 has a total output of 1Amp while the MX686 has a total output of 1.2 Amps and come complete with a stay alive capcitor.
Both do all the usual Zimo tricks like fade up/down of lights and cab lighting which switches off when you start moving etc.
Prices are around £22 and £25 respectively.

Will have a look at the zimo stuff. Can they be programmed via cv's on an MTS3/massoth navi setup or will I need zimo gear to set up? I've got an ESU programmer and software if a zimo would talk cv's with it?

Has anybody got any first hand experience of installing a non-LGB decode into one of these vehicles with the built in interface? On looking at the interface board, I've only got the following connections - Track L&R, F1, GRD, FOR Light, REV Light. I don't have a DECODER + connection on the board... Can it be done? I know I could just pull the interface board out and hard wire another makes decoder in such as a Zimo or ESU, but when I've got an interface< I like to use it for neatness and ease of future removal.
