Dave Hub's garden resurrection, let there be trains.

Hello all.

Some of you may have thought I'd dropped off the planet.
I must be honest with getting a puppy systematically destroy the railway and garden I kind of lost heart.

The good news is the infusion of sunlight and a healthy dose of time away from work has helped to renew my passion.

Here are some photos showing what damage a dog and puppy can do when you let them. Its partly my fault as I let other things inhibit my garden time.

Fear not Friends. the next update to this story will depict the early Ester Resurrection of the railway. Plenty more photos to come after a cup of tea.

I have started to reclaim the garden. It started with putting down a new lawn. 40 rolls of turf and two days of backbreaking labour.

I also Adjusted the step to my decking to allow trains to run under it rather than in front of it.

The start of the new lawn. Main train lin to run around the outside.

More of the new lawn. Good job I got it cheap needing 40 rolls.

The lawn and path in place. looking better already. To keep me inspired I set up my shuttle line and had a train running back and forth.

The dogs also appreciate my hard work. ( I think)

Looking better already Dave, be nice to see the railway up and running, keep posting the progress......

The shuttle line will be a permanent feature eventually. I wanted dual track all the way around but space would not allow.

So a seperate end to end shuttle line is the next best thing. This will run along side my main line leaving the station then diverge off onto a high level line. Due to short space R1 curves were used and it is quite tight so only small locos will be used on it.

The shuttle line terminus platform ,with the main line stopping the other side. Temporary platform surface until I can put a propper platform in.

The end to end line runs along the bridge parralel to the main until it diverges.

Two pictures showing qiute how tight it is up there between the trees and fence. The little 0-4-0 diesels had no problem. The Playmobil converted wagons are about as wide as any rolling stock can be.

Even a back and for shuttle mishaps still occur and trains divide. is it just me or does this happen to everyone?

Yeah! Welcome back Dave.

By the way, yes, mishaps in the garden only happen to you.
Nah, only joking!

First, let me say that gravity sucks, so no fear of loosing you Dave. Second, the puppy really stack all of the track like that? :rolf:

Nice to see you back Dave....

Good to see it taking shape.

Reckon the dogs will soon have the new lawn looking like the old one for you!

good to see some track going down Dave

Nice to see you around again. I can understand the loosing heart bit and the first few piccys would have finished me off too but looking good again now. More piccys of any more progress as and when:bigsmile:

Really nice to see you back.
I tend to lose heart every winter but get back in the swing of things in the spring. Luckily our puppy hasn't wrecked the garden, perhaps my building of her large pen has helped.

I love spring, once tidied and cleared the garden looks its best.

Funnily enough Dave, this is pretty much how the WGLR got started. We had a load of chickens who went feral and pretty much turned the garden into a waste land. They were "re-homed" (courtesy of a packet of Paxo) and work started on re-establishing the garden in early 2006, before an expedition to see Andrew at Cheltenham Garden Railway Centre yielded an LGB starter set.:bigsmile:

It was worth the effort - well done mate.:thumbup:

well folks like many of you I got in the garden with a whip and got the team working on the railway this weekend.

I put down another six foot of concrete for the track bed. This area behind used to be the wife's veg patch. She has kindly donated to the railway cause. I have now made a mound which will be planted with mini conifers and a church of the wife's chooseing is to be put atop of the mound amongst the mini forest.

Been out and got a small selection of trees to be planted. I don't want to buy too many till I know how big the church will be.

Generous woman! Definitely best to keep her onside.

Been a while since I updated this thread.

So the good news is there is now a shuttle line in place, There is also a full loop running around the garden which has 2 passing loops.

The bad news, my track laying is so poor that it's like a roller coaster and needs some serious fettling before service can run safely. The other bad news is the shuttle line is suffering from poor conductivity. This is being recitfied with rail clamps and graphite paste.

In my last post you will remember the wife let me utilise her pumpkin patch. (keep it clean Mel. I know what you're thinking.)

well after some consultation and building my first kit I can announce the church is now fininshed and where it belongs.

I'll be honest the train is placed on the track due to the poor track bed its not quite up to high speed running yet. Thats my next job. also I think my little forest around the church needs more trees.
