Riograndad
Model Railroading, boats and oil painting,

After some confusion with Mrs Rio just before Xmas,i found a LGB part no on a phone pad, appears she was looking for prezzy for me and came across a Sumpter mallet for sale, when i got home from work next day she mentioned it,and saying if you want it better make the call tomorrow!!!!!so what could i do?call made next day to reserve the beast, picked it up the Friday before Xmas,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The loco was mint, everything worked ok,all tested in the shop, but problem with the tender. The previous owner had stuck what i assume was a road name over the Sumpter Valley signage and there were four fixings of mega glue on each side about 10mm around and over the rivet detail and destroying some of the lettering, some cosmetic work required.
First thing was to try and remove the glue, this proved harder than i thought,SOME GLUE!!!Ihad to cut most of it off with a sharp knife, then rub down with wet n dry,the glue had actually damaged the tender sides, melting the plastic to leave a dent, lost some rivet heads too :`(together with the lettering, first job was to fill the dents with model filler, rub smooth with wet n dry and soapy water, next job was to replace the rivet heads with new mouldings(think they Cambian Models parts, lost the packaging
)then a couple of coats of satin black to finish off,to match the loco trim.some lettering added, satin varnish to seal,a rattle can satin coat will give a final coat, when i get some
as for the loco, only a couple of bits done here, sunshades added, plating added to the plain steps on the pilot and crew painted(they still to finish)the LGB engineer now the fireman, soon to retire, when a new figure can be found(really dont like, the pose and too small)overall pleased with the results so far, pics are from the first shake down run, checking for clearances on the layout, all fine, about the same required as a Big Hauler,(ISH)to my suprise the WP&Y Alco needs more room!!!
