Hi, I’m new to the forum and I’m looking for a working Class 66 locomotive.
If anyone has one for sale please pm me.
Thank you...
Looking forward to alot of learning.

Hi X Xtrema , I am still relatively new, but a bit of and introduction would be nice, as for the class 66, G Scale is normally narrow gauge (IMHO) and i don't know of a NG class 66!!

Now defunct US company Aristocraft made a Class 66 in 1:29 scale in a number of liveries - Although well received there wasn't a big enough market to encourage further production from the initial run or models of other UK prototypes. It was designed to run on 45 mm gauge track to include the chunky code 332 rail based systems that most "G Scalers" use. Bachmann (aka Kader) now handle the Aristocraft brand and any possible re-releases from their old tooling. Might be worth contacting them to see if they have any future plans for this loco.

Std gauge prototypes are very much part of the garden railway "G Scale" scene here at GSC Jimmy - but mostly EU (LGB & Piko) and US (Aristocraft, USA Trains and MTH) outline. Admittedly UK outline std gauge product is almost exclusively G1 (1:32/10 mm scales on 45 mm gauge track) and tend to be seen (or see themselves ;)) as a separate branch of the hobby from the hotchpotch of mainstream garden railway "thereabouts" scales that happily coexist here :D .

Out of production for a few years the Aristocraft Class 66's are somewhat sought after now and can fetch upto around £8/700 dependent on livery and condition. There were a couple for sale recently on the Garden Railway trading site on FB. Or check the usual UK dealers, a list of links to them is available on the G Scale Society's website, (and possibly German Ebay traders). Good luck with your hunt and welcome to this forum. Max

P.S. Unless your intended loco worked on the isle of Sodor I doubt it had any perception of its social class. No Gordon to look down on it for terms of reference :)

Worth noting that, if you do get a Class 66, you will need curves of a minimum of LGB Radius 3 or equivalent to run it.

A mate of mine has a couple which have been converted from track power to battery radio control. He is more of a Gauge 1 man, but he does used Code 332 track as used by us G scalers.

He has a few container wagons, and some kit built aggregate wagons, but there isn't much available for these locos to haul....

The Aristo Class 66 is a handsome beast, but another one of Aristocraft's anachronisms.

In the US, 1:29 standard gauge produces similar sized rolling stock to 1:24 narrow gauge with both products running on 45mm track - thus you could pick and mix and it all looked reasonably OK. Where they came unstuck with the Class 66 was the British loading gauge, that rendered a 1:29 scale model much smaller than the 1:29 US outline diesels.

But don't worry - have a little of what you fancy and play trains :nod::nod::nod::nod:

Thanks for the info

I think most of us on this site appreciate good models, whatever the size/scale/gauge after all, rule 8 is ruled for a reason

Got one yippee...❤️❤️❤️

Nice models, I have the German HGK version (seen here posed with an N gauge equivalent)

When I DCC'd it I found the directional lighting was no longer reliable, due to the PIC microcontroller used in the lighting circuit. I bypassed that and wired the lights to decoder function outputs via resistors. I have a write-up PDF somewhere.

Looks beautiful,
When I get mine delivered I’m seriously considering a respray to maroon Royal Scotsman

Looks really beautiful.
When I receive mine I’m seriously considering a respray to Belmond Royal Scotsman livery and some associated coachwork...
The stuff of dreams...

I see you have chosen to make your working class 66 socialy upwardly mobile with its impending upgrading to Belmond Royal Scotsman livery. It will have truly joined the social elite of locos. All you need now is a class 67 in the Royal livery and the 2 will be able to hobnob on your proposed layout to their hearts' content. :) Max

Ha ha, Max it’s a hobby that when it bites it wont let go...

Did someone say hobnobs? Yes please. :-)
