Changed ebay categories???

Is it just me or has ebay "gone wonky"?

I've used the same URL to take me straight to newly listed items in the "G Gauge" sub-category for years . . . but today it doesn't work. Trying to drill down to that same sub-category only lets me get to an American-looking higher category . . .

I have recently been getting more 'US-centric' search results..

Some very interesting items, with reasonable final-prices. Obviously, the carriage and duties, takes the edge off, though..

It is almost as if EvilBay has decided to field non-EU results, as we are no-longer in the club?

They introduced a "Continental Europe" location category (that includes items from the UK as well as those from Europe that offer postage to the UK) as an alternative to the original "European Union" . . .

I have managed to get into a "G Gauge" category (somehow), but only at the expense of the list including lots on non-G Scale items. Still exploring the options, though.

I think the refine your search appears a bit off, not able to find what you show above! No doubt some bright spark decided to change things to make it easier! Obviously getting him/her a nice bonus but making things trickier for the rest of us. Such is the way of the IT world, if only they would ask us users what we would like.
 
Searches on eBay recently have suddenly been on the basis of Default for area, hence the 8,000 plus results for a search on LGB in all categories. Tick UK and you get 1,000 odd, but you cannot search on UK and EU to get the equivalent results of a pre-Brexit search.

Sometimes, and I don't know why, a search on lgb in all categories brings up a wide range of stuff non-g gauge.
 
Unfortunately ebay have never heard of "if it ain't broke don't mend it". They seem to have been invaded by a lot of super coding brainless idiots. Nothing seems to make sense anymore. It's practically impossible to see who has left you feedback.
 
My eBay .co.uk saved search for G Scale has also just stopped working. They do seem to have changed the categories in the model railways section. I’ve created a new one which is working again.

eBay changed a bunch of categories globally on October 12 (US time). This includes the Model Rail hobby categories.

The changes broke a bunch of my saved searches but not all of them. It turns out that not everything was changed in one go, as some secondary changes have followed over the past few days.

Anyway, one of the later changes has been to put a G Scale/Spur G (etc) filter into the model rail categories, so it is again possible to create searches just on G Scale listed items. In some national markets an LGB filter is also available.

For me the biggest loss is that the pseudo name-tag hack (e.g. putting something like "RhB Euro" at the start of the search argument) no longer works for embedding something in the search string which allowed some control of the order that save searches appear in the list.

Anyway, I have been able to get most of my former searches working again by experimenting with the filter options. Not all filter option display unless you hit the "more/all" expansion, so it's a somewhat trial and error process.
 
Like others, I have found a way to replicate some of my earlier searches. For 'Newly Listed' and 'Ending Soonest' I can use the (Gauge =) "G" filter (in the"Railroads (sic) and Trains" category) instead of the "G Gauge" Category . . . but not on the Advanced Seach page (where I used to check what had sold, and for how much) which does have the Category option, but doesn't have the same filter options (so, has the meaning of "Advanced" changed when I wasn't looking?)

It's a P.I.T.A as usual with "improvements" - I wonder if the people that make these changes are ex-politicans? No they can't be can they - ebay won't be paying salaries like States do!
 
Went on today, I normally search "G Gauge" and then just click "G Gauge" in the left hand column under collectables, Not there now, and my search was full of all sorts of dross from other scales as somebody has mentioned PITA, and a retrograde step.
 
How frustrating.....!!!!! I thought I was doing something wrong. Now, instead of a few seconds finding what I want, it wastes my time searching. Even if I click on a particular item, the "All Categories" shows in the search box at the right.

The people at Evilbay must have taken a lesson from the designers of packaging.....:swear:.....Where things used to come in nice easy to open cardboard boxes, that are recyclable, they now come in blister packs that one could loose a finger trying to open. And don't even get me started on cereal packaging and anything like chips that come in bags needing the Jaws Of Life to open.....:banghead:

No, they're just people with too little to do who know nothing about how people use eBay but think they can improve it.
 
I occasionally get requests from ebay "what do you think of ????". I always send the same answer. Stop fixing things that are not broken & fix the things that do not work.
