Can anyone identify this wagon?

I bought this wagon chassis on ebay last week and it was delivered this morning. It seems to be very well made of all metal construction but there are no makers marks. It has sprung axleboxes and whitewall tyres. No couplings or buffers are fitted though there are slots in the beams. Does not look scratchbuilt though - if it is whoever made it has done a really neat job.

Any ideas?

I think it is possible that the brass and steel floor shown in the last pic is a later addition, but who knows?

On closer examination I think it is a gauge 1 vehicle. The wheel flanges are finer than LGB, it sits a little lower on the track and is a few mm narrower than most LGB stock. If it is 10mm/ft it's a massive beast though, and it weighs as much as a live steam locomotive. I have a cunning plan as to what I can use it for...

BIG breakdown crane!! ;)

That is a very good suggestion. Has to be something really heavy to justify all those axles. I have in mind something a bit more whimsical however 8)

Very well detailed, right down to the brake rodding underneath.

How about one of these although, at 1:35 it might be a tad on the small side? It is still a monster though even without its cranes/carriers either side.

Nah, no use, it's derailed BOTH ends! ;)

It does look like a tender chassis to me with the heavy bogies and curved buffer beam at one end. The construction looks a bit like Magnus but could be another German brand. The bogie design also looks more European than American.

Well if it is by Magnus I won't complain ;) When I first got interested in G scale I remember looking at catalogues and marvelling at the price Magnus were asking for their rolling stock. I reckon you and Paul are probably right about it being a tender chassis. Whatever, it's a nice bit of kit.

My stab in the dark would be the tender chassis from a Hudson (although there were many variations) :-\

It just goes to show that ballasting track with a towel is not a good idea...... :D

I fancy making a mobile old school Jamaican sound system - a bit like a rail borne carnival float. I could incorporate a typically modest set of speakers similar to these

with mixing decks, a DJ, singer and a few revellers

The decoration will be subtle, of course

I still have my old BBQ unit from my indoor layout with flickering lights and smoke so I will try and incorporate a jerk pork stand somewhere in the scene as well :D

How about one the big flying audio rigs from the 80`s

Wow! Wouldn't want to be standing too close to that lot at full power!

I just spent an interesting 10 minutes reading more about Malcom Hill. This Forum is always an education ;)

The big stadium rigs owe a lot to Malcolm Hill, Live Aid was a hill rig, Lot of AC/DC stuff was hill, Some Early Pink Floyds were Hill, Still have a set of M4's I aquired when he Moved from Hollingbourne, I knew him through the Christain Connection, due to Involvement the YMCA and Several Free Churches

It looks very much like a railway breakdown kit, all metal and I am sure i have seen a built one recently on a link from this site but cannot locate it. maybe someone can do a better search than me !

Interesting ! ( I am back from remotest Down under) Seems your all overlooking something looks like a tender chassis very similar to SAR 25NC or a 15 but something else how about a Diesel chassis Portrugese class 50 springs to mind or an early English Electric export model . Well made though what radius will it go through in curves wish I seen it on Ebay
