Cambrai DDC lights

Haha. Ok. Will have to come over. Mine line is coming up next week. Moving house. Bigger garden hence the need for dcc. I'm in the eastern green area. Maybe we can sort this issue out. Rich

Rich, have PM'ed you about meeting up. From more experimenting on my setup, I've found changing CV29 to '4' has cured the issue. Have you got facility to read/write CV's?

Hey,

im fairly new to DCC, i recently bought an MTS3 set up. I have tested it in analogue works fine apart form the horrible motor noise.
At the moment i do not have any digital locos so i borrowed my dads Cambrai he runs in analogue. I managed to set the address for it but can't get the lights to turn on for directional travel.
Im thinking as its an older loco with a factory fitted decoder its will not work with a parallel mts 3 set up.

Any help in getting the functions working is a great help.

Thanks

Do the forward lights come on when the loco is run backwards on DCC? If so this could be an issue with the direction of travel bit in CV29 and command for the front lighting terminal CV52. Have you got the LGB manual for the loco? Maybe the rear lights are coming on when the loco is driven forward, of course this loco doesn't have any rear lights so that would be hard to spot!

Setting CV29 to 4 as Andy says would also have set the direction of travel bit and maybe this is why it cures the problem, can't see any other reason why setting CV29 to 4 would help. (although setting bit 2 to zero may have fixed any light flashing on and off on different speed steps)

......... Also how can you tell if it's a serial handset? .........
If when you press a button the l/h "L" flashes the same number of times as the value of the button pressed before the command is implemented then it is serial.
If the response to the button is instantaneous then it is parallel.
Except button 9 which is immediate for both handset types. You must have a "P" command unit too.

I have spoken to the EBay seller and he bought it new. He is also a member on here. My stainz lights do not work in any direction. hopefully meeting up with Andy to work out the issue. Rich

Hello all, today i took my Stainz and MTS system to Andy Spencers, We tested every situation we could think of. Multiple handsets and central stations. Turns out my MTS Central station unit creating the problem with lights. The lights worked correctly on Andys set up. Does anyone have any knowledge of this happening to them or know a way of fixing it?

Success with the lights

Thanks to Andy Spencer who worked out what the issue was. We knew it was to do with the speed steps of the engines. My engines are all set to 14 speed steps, but the second hand MTS 3 central station was using 28 speed steps on every loco address.

It turns out the previous owner had used a Massoth dimax or something similar and set all the address on the central station to 28 speed steps, we then discovered it saves each address as a profile of some sort on the central station and stores all kinds of information eg. speed steeps, engine name etc.
We could see the previous owners large collection of stock that he programed to each address.

The only way we could reset each address was to use a dimax controller and change each speed step to 14 one at a time.

It turns out when programming address using the 55016P it does not change all the settings.

Now all light functions work using my 55016P controller. Hope this info is useful to anyone having similar issues.

:)

now i just have to build my new railway!

Result. Good bit of persevering there. ;)

It was a right brain teaser!! But we got there. Does anybody know if there is a way to delete any stored info on a central station that was put there by a dimax handset that can't be changed by an MTS handset? All we've done as Rich says is manually change each loco address to 14 steps on the stored profile. I'm pretty sure you can't change the speed steps on an LGB system as they only use 14 throughout?

Andy

Great that you've found the answer, Andy!

I would think that there must be SOME way of resetting an MTS3 station back to factory settings, and deleting any stored data - but I have no idea what that is...... might be worth an email to Massoth to ask them? Peter Ting at Massoth is usually quite good at answering questions as long as they're not about the DRC300..... ;)

The email address is: Peter Ting <hotline@massoth.de>
You can write in English, but as a courtesy I usually run my messages through Google Translate and paste the German translation into the email as well.

Jon.

Thanks. I had been emailing Peter about the issue and was looking to get it repaired I even asked about a factory reset. But I think it may have got lost in translation.
