British Diesel Locos & Shunters - G Scale

The bodywork is beautifully done but I am thinking you will have to discard the "undercarriage" as it looks pretty rigid from the photographs, and replace it with an 0-6-0 motor block designed for R1 curves. There's a website called g-bits with various motor block options and the owner of that site is very helpful in my experience.

As I wrote in my earlier post, wheels for "G scale" (hate that term but it's commonly understood) have wider treads than Gauge 1, so the likelyhood is that you'd have to have all that lovely outside framing moved apart quite considerably or discarded completely in order to accommodate the wider wheels, or have the chassis completely replaced with something from a G scale model such as this:

- but you'll probably struggle to find something with a matching wheelbase.
Maybe the Accucraft Baguley-Drewry chassis might be suitable basis (minus the blind jackshaft)? I believe it's available separately

The Baguley chassis kind of almost "looks the part" for an 08, you never know it might even be possible to arrange for simple swap out of the original Gauge 1 chassis and the "G scale" one depending on where you're running / displaying the loco?

fred phipps makes kits of a both warships.... a class 42... and a D600 warship also a class 21/22/29

in 1 32,,,,

i think he could be making a western kit next,,, and his kits are exceptional....

someone also makes a class 14 in kit and rtr in 1 32, could be mercian models

it is a shame no one has done more diesels,,, accucraft were developing a 08 a 20 and a 37 but

they shelved the projects

I am *sure* there is a '37 kit out there.. just need to remember where!

Brass mainly, from memory.. About £350 for the kit, I *think* you need wheels / motors etc. on top of that.

Was slightly tempted (I had a little spare cash at the time) but decided it might well be beyond my capability to make a decent job of it.

Wouldn't it be worth asking the original builder to fit coarse scale wheels and flangeless ones on the middle axle?
He at least knows how it goes together so can do it faster.
From the looks, that'll never do R1s with a scratchbuilt chassis.

You'll need a lathe to turn the flanges of the Slaters wheels (I had a friend do mine) and it'll go round R3s.

It is incredibly difficult using available parts to introduce sufficient sideplay for a 6-coupled loco to do R1s.

The Slaters wheels are not too fine for G scale - it's the length of the rigid chassis that's the issue.
