I assume most of you have noticed this one by now....

Good order, but apparently a duff Massoth decoder in it that would need replacing.

I know they went for a pretty high price when new, has anyone here got one? Were they worth the money?

Not really thinking seriously about bidding, just curious.....

Does anybody know if these locos go round R1's

John (Bredebahn) has one.
If he doesn't reply to this topic I suggest anyone seriously interested P.M. him for an opinion.

I think the answer to that is an emphatic NO!

no, there is a longer link bar to thge tender, but brvav do not recomend running on less than r2

Thanks guys, just saved me quite a lot of money.....

I couldn't get the loco round the only bit of near R1 that I had - the curved section of an LGB double slip. Not enough flexibility in the centre drivers. Cylinders would foul anyway and it looked ridiculous.

Loco is beautiful - but seems to be universally criticised for the amount of fragile detail present. I must admit that I was scared to run mine as it would inevitably return with something missing - whether or not you spotted it at the time was another matter. Looks absolutely beautiful though, particularly when alongside an LGB loco! Good traction through 8 main drivers. Retailed around £1000 mark (analogue slightly cheaper, digi a bit more). There were some issues and a recall on the motor fitted to the digi version - although my analogue version was also remotored with a Maxon motor prior to delivery.

Any more questions I'll answer as best as I can. Meantime some piccies!

I can see straightaway that the Ebay offering has already suffered minor damage - the smokebox door handrail is missing - so it's likely that there is other detail damage. Anyone buying is advised to ask a few pointed questions - in particular ask for a picture of the lefthand side of the boiler as this is where the valvegear and the boiler piping/handrail can be easily damaged when lifting.

Brawa's own specs for the loco on their website do list it at "minimum radius 600mm", which is R1; of course, while this may be possible it won't necessarily look pretty while doing it!

Well Bredebahn reported in an earlier reply that he had a problem on his LGB double slip. AFAIK that's an R2 curve.

For everyone's info, I just asked the seller a question about the smokebox handrail and any other missing/damaged details - will be interesting to see what the response is. I notice he mentions that is has a Maxon motor, so presumably this has either been upgraded from the original or was manufactured after the recall issue?

My understanding is that from end to end average you're right Neil - but it isn't an even curve and tightens right up in the centre to R1 or possibly even less! All I know for certain is that my loco wasn't playing ball with it!

Mine had a dirty great sticker on the box!

Very nice indeed your G4/5 Rod. It looks quite a bit more substantial than the flaky Brawa model.

I suspect that Brawa pulled out of the G Scale market partly because of a single user's experience listed in gory detail at:

http://www.reutimann-ch.ch/brawa.ht...res of defects. Caveat emptor! Mike

Roy Cofton Mann ran his here and it coped quite well even though it was R1 in the shed and on an incline.

They are a bit fragile and bits do fall off

I guess it's easy enough to compare the curve of the DS by placing a R2 curve on top? I'm sure BB is spot on when he mentions the uneven curve, so I'll accept that is indeed the case.

I've never understood why LGB used a different radii for the DS and the earlier 3WP to their R3 points. It doesn't make for easy layout building, when you have to cut fiddly bits of track to fit!

PIKO seem to be addressing this with their track geometry, but I have yet to see their DS in the raw. The specification states that it will be the same as R1 having a 30 deg arc....

The price on the G4/5 is going up steadily, looks like there are at least a couple of people who seriously want it (no, neither of them are me - I'd vaguely considered it, but after all the comments here, and getting an answer from the seller to the effect that the front handrail is lost and "several" other bits of detail have dropped off, I think I'll leave the others to fight over it!). Will be interesting to see what it finally goes for!
