Brake/Guards van from spares box

The spring weather being what is was :'( I searched round for an indoor project. I realised that I didn't have any sort of brake or guards van. So, after a good furtle in my spares box, I came up with on old Bachmann Davenport body and an IP 'Atlantic Buffet Car' bogie from one that's now on my railway as a static Cafe (it's an excellent model but it was too long for my twisty track) and some plastic mesh.
With some ply from the garage/workshop, a frame and base was made. I elongated the wheelbase on the bogie (it was easier than designing another - and it had some detail already scribed on it!) I copied the dimentions of one of my trucks:

Tried the body for size - luckily, it all worked:

I didn't manage to find a suitable brake wheel so used a wooden disc but no doubt, one will turn up sometime! 8|

I used the plastic mesh for the 'load area' and painted it in acrylics and added a bit of rust and stuff:

It quite looks the part, I think. :)

Total outlay: £0.00

Result! :D

I like that ! Its something different, and there is also the satisfaction in making something out of nothing.

That is nice! :) Great re-use of the Davenport cab.
If anyone else wants one I have a spare that I'd happily pass on for just the postage.

I love the wagon, I am looking to build a pump wagon to go with my tank wagon and then need some sort of brake van that will carry some fire fighting crew.
