Those Coal Wagons really shout Oz to me, very nice. Also are you all using Battery Radio Control?

Thanks-the coal wagons are just balsa. I made 8 in a "sitting".
All the locos (except the live steam Shay (not Garratt as I put in the caption)) are radio controlled using Hobbyking 2.4GHz equipment.

Excellent !
Any more info on the steam tram ?

Thanks David,
I realised I'd never taken a video of the tram, so got it out yesterday. It is based on the Baldwin steam 'motors' that ran in Sydney from 1880-1910s. I built it on an Aristo motor block from styrene. The side boards hide the fact the wheelbase is too short. Eight, NiCd AA cells in the boiler with home made RC and sound electronics on the floor (visible unfortunately) and speaker in the roof. The ends are aluminium for strength.
The tram carriagle is mainly balsa and the roof has a mind of its own regarding curvature.
Here's a few pics...

Liked the videos and the steam tram engine but, what's that lurking in the shed?

Hey Greg the garrat ( is that a copy of the One lurking at Menzies Creek?) and the Baldwin are gorgeous.... You've inspired me.

It's my rough model of an early Queensland Gulflander. It was my one and only attempt at using a simple motor and rubber band drive to the wheels.
The batteries and electronics are in the luggage compartment and you can just see the speaker outline on the back wall in the pic, which is a piece of material.
You can see from the underside I am hopeless at mechanical stuff. I stick to electronics these days.

It has a 'magic wand' control system seen in this video.

It's not really a model of anything - just a Garratt to suit the 2 motor blocks.
I don't think you need inspiring Trev, after your articles on street lamps and poles.

There's nothing wrong with it - great little model. I did something similar based on the AEC railcar (based is the word!). And anyway, 10 out of 10 for the simple drive - plus it runs on wheels not on the roof ! I like it, The Sidney tram loco I recognised straight away and I like anything like that.

I might (if I can find pics) post my railcar efforts on a seperate thread - its based on the Australian one, with a hint of County Donegal practise and painted for my line. Its only problem is the drive is (cheap plastic) worm and wheel - the gear wheel keeps moving out of line - plastic too oily.

Thanks for posting.

Mick

Missed the video on first look. Sound as well. Inspired again by this and the "Railcar Bonnet" thread. Sent off for some motor/worm drive units yesterday!

An AEC Railmotor.... Unfortunatley it's not mine but there are several running both in G scale and full size there is 1 at Normanton and a motor and trailer at Gympie.
