Yes definitely worth being a member. The etch last year was a good idea too and SMT is a super read too.

Mmm, If Sealion has his, then mine'll be on the doormat tonight..... :D

I got mine already to Austria yesterday, too.
I flipped through and found some background information and lots of pictures for scratchbuilding or even building industrial narrow gauge rolling stock. There´re some detailled pictures of locomotives, too.

I read already in the last SMT Bulletin that they´re planning to present this to every member, so it´s really worth to be a member there (as far as I could judge as I joined them in Summer this year).

Enjoy reading, I will definitely read some stories this weekend.

Klaus

Got mine yesterday and texted the G Scale Society Chairman this morning to tell him about it. I wonder what we'll get next year from the 16mm Santa?

Steve

Superb - just flicked through, what an inspirational bunch of photos - I have only seen one before.

Well done to the 16mm soc - even if they're a bit snooty to us 45mm types!!!! :rolf: That's a joke, by the way....... :clown:

Well the front cover of the actual SMT appears to have an LGB loco on it! :D

I got the book first and then SMT. Both very good reads paked of useful stuff. The bulletin has some bargains in the ads section too.

SMT came today. I was worried Andrew Charman might have jumped ship when I saw him editing NG World, but he;s doing both - phew!! He's done wonders with 16mm Today...... :D

its a quality association to be a part of these days, since Iv joined apart from the mags Iv gotten a couple of book(all excellent), 2 DVDs, a pack of brass details and stencils and a free junior wagon!

Superb magazines both of them.A bit sad though, some beautiful locos scrapped because they couldn't find buyers for them, they must have gone to scrap for cherry bobs....

Yes, I always feel like that too Allan - if they were available now, for the price from back then..... :D ...I'd be divorced!!!!!

edit for sp - it's early for a Saturday!

Hi

Shaun.

I hope it's OK to give a bit more info about the Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers. I am only a mere member, not involved in running the Association at all, so this is very much from the punters point of view. Please don't take this as a commercial advert! I'm just pleased I joined!

Membership is £17 a year and joining is easy - you can now pay via PayPal on the website at http://www.16mm.org.uk/ . According to the latest issue of the magazine Sixteen Millimetre Today (SMT) which came last week, membership is growing very fast, they think maybe helped by the ease of joining now provided on the web site.

Despite some perceptions, there are loads of members on 45mm track and the cover of the magazine even has "32mm" and "45mm" on it.

Frankly the four issues of SMT are worth the money but add to that the "free" new book which is the title of this thread plus other benefits, here picked from the web site:

Access to almost 30 years of 16mm modelling experience. Help and advice are willingly given.

A copy of the new members guide to modelling in 16mm narrow gauge, with 42 pages of colour pictures, diagrams and text giving invaluable advice. Also included are details of many of the manufacturers and suppliers in our scale.

High-quality full-colour magazine "16mm Today" every quarter.

Quarterly newsletter with updates about national shows, area group events and local garden railway meetings; and a members sales and wanted section where you can find real bargains.

Full public liability insurance cover for members' garden railway meetings and live steam locomotives.

National garden railway show in the Spring.

A lot of satisfaction and enjoyment!

For 17 notes a year, it really is a bargain.

I'll second Graham's comments. I was subject to some salesmanship from the 16mm guys at G-Rail this year, and joined at the show.

Excellent magazine and a superb book as a gift. A snip at 17 sovs. I haven't had chance to do more than flick through the book, but it looks full of "modelogenic" material.

As the younger generation might say "I'm like, well impressed"....
