The NG16 is the most unreliable loco at Abercanyon. It has failed twice this week, with a broken sight glass and a piston spindle coming unscrewed from the Crosshead. The spindle problem is not unusual despite using thread lock.
Whilst repairs were effected the opportunity was taken to remove the Chuff Pipe, as an experiment. The result is an improvement in performance as it seems to have freed up some what.
Despite the very cold conditions it was able to handle 15 bogie vehicles. When the spring comes the load will be increased. Pic enclosed.
