Ballast for an indoor line

I think it's closer to something like this: Black Basalt Aggregate 1- 3 MM - Available in 25 kg bags, or pallet quantities. Bulk Bags please call for details and availability.

Essentially, basalt gravel so I'd say solid as opposed to soft like perlite. My terrible German says the literal translation "split fungus" is correct but the manifestation is different. I defer to a native German speak or resident to correct me though.

EDIT: I was wrong, 'Fugen' isn't fungus in this, it's the plural of Fuge meaning gap. It's essentially the filter used between paving slabs.

On Hardyard, I used O scale ballast, fixed with Casemite glue and wetted with a water spray with a drop of washing up liquid, very much in the same way one would do in the smaller scales.

I tend to use a ballast that is a scale lower than the track, e.g. N scale ballast on OO/HO track. I'm currently constructing a N scale layout with Kato track and Kato ballast for the '4 foot' and cess, and I feel the ballast looks over-scale. Wish I'd gone for Z scale ballast....

Aha that now makes a lot of sense, I have in tha past bought a similar product from BnQ and it was a really superb pretty well scale size and grey to match. Sadly it never appeared again and neither could I find a local supplier. I since found via a forum member a similar product but had to drive from St.Neots to near Harwich to get some.

Yes the shingle they tend to use between paviours in commercial premises carparks seems to be the stuff to use. A quick scoop of a waste pile is all you need. Make sure you get permission from the site agent first though

Must look around car parks with more interest now. Though of the 2 bags I bought near Harwich I still have a bag left.
