Bachmann Offset Shank Couplers Required

Hi, I recently purchased a secondhand Bachmann Spectrum 2-6-6-2 loco, unfortunatley the accessory pack was missing which also contains the additional offset shank couplers. With the factory fitted couplers on the loco, they are set too high for my rolling stock, if anyone who has this type of loco or even the new Bachmann Lynn, as this loco also contains this type of coupler,and they are surplus to their requirements and willing to sell them , please let me know. I have tried Bachmann U.K., and several dealers to no avail, also the Bachmann accessory pack of offset couplers are different to this type.

Let me check, I may be able to swap you two cranked for your two straight ones.

I've discovered that Bachmann knuckles will connect OK to Accucraft ones, even though they don't look as if they ought to :-

Hi Stuart
the ordinary Bachmann offset couplers have different shanks to the ones you need but the coupler head is the same. There is a small philips head screw underneith the couper that holds the coupler head to the shank so it should be a simple job to change the heads over.

I have these

I do need to swap them for the straight ones though.

I can either swap them whole, or just swap the brown bits.

PM me :thumbup::thumbup:

Hi, thanks for the quick response, but the type shown in the photo aren't the ones I'm after, I've tried these but they don't fit as the screw hole and dovetail shape housing are fractionally different. The type I'm after have the fixing bracket on the coupler at the top which is only short, and they are black not brown, its the type that comes as an alternative coupler with the new Bachmann Lynn.

Just a thought, if no Bachmann couplers available, have you thought of looking at the Kadee range of replacement couplers ? Either to change a coupler at one end of a wagon to make a "match truck" for this loco or to change both ends on the loco to lower the Coupler's height. Or, would it be possible to lower the actual coupler gearboxes, stripwood shim perhaps, on the loco ends to get them to the correct height.

Both these methods I have used to get over this problem with Bachmann and other makers products running together. I find Kadee/Bachmann (old & new)/AMS Accucraft all work fine in various combinations.
Max.
