Bachmann D&RGW Coach bashing

Superb modelling, such a shame you will not see them running. No local layouts you could give them a run on? With a for sale sign on I sure that would be a good way for you to move them on, at least giving you the pleasure of seeing them run and perhaps in the knowledge they will have gone to a good home.

Jon,
there is about twenty coaches that I am completing. I prefer the constructing stage rather than the finishing part of the construction. I will be glad to move them on as they are taking up more room now as I complete them as before when they were merely stacked on each other. I had a long run with largescale and now have other interests.

I am thinking that these storage shelves of mine are a bottomless pit as I continue to drag out new projects to progress towards completion. I had no idea that I had been so productive. I have continued work on these this morning after many years of inactivity on them.

First is a generic business car loosely based on a D&RGW coach. Some windows have been filled in such as adjacent the stove and the kitchen area. In days of old ice chest cabinets were placed on the rear platform to store perishable food items.

Next is a baggage car. In later years these cars were fitted internally with generator power units to run refrigeration units. A fuel tank was fitted externally to the rear platform. A radiator was slung on the underside of the car for engine cooling. Of note is the unusual "weather vane" fitted to the rotating exhaust to assist removal of exhaust fumes.drad.JPG drae.JPG draf.JPG

Thirdly is an RPO in later years fitted with reinforced end walls. Even though I scaled out the length of the car body I feel that it looks a little too long. Perhaps the stock Bachmann body is not 1/22.5 scale and more 1/24 scale. This car may enthuse me as I progress it towards completion.

Alas, with inclement weather predicted for the weekend I may not get much spraying done.

I am impressed with the range of work you have undertaken but, even more so with your knowledge!

Phil,
these are some of the "construction" cars. In following order, #051, #0460 and #0772. The latter two have since received full interiors comprising a kitchen at one end and bunks at the other. These are photographs from many years ago, although the cars are intended to be finished.
