Bachmann Annie to 4-8-0T (LSWR G16)

This is another lock down project
It involves building something close to a LSWR G16 tank engine as built to Marshall freight trains at Felthams hump yard
The chassis is basically an Annie chassis with the cylinders inclined and re shaped to represent a piston valve block, some metal work on the support bracket removed etc
New coupling rods to represent the eight coupled wheel base were made from 4x10mm steel
The trailing (new) wheel set isn’t actually connected and free floats, an idea I pinched from the old Lima O gauge 4F model
The wheel set is from a Stirling tender and is the same diameter as the Annie drivers
The bogie wheels were swapped for a set of large wagon wheels from GRS
The body is built mainly from plasticard and the boiler is from a length of rainwater pipe
The chimney was cut down from a Bachmann stove pipe one in my scrap box,
the dome is a GRS casting I think intended for a narrow gauge saddle tank.
The loco was painted in an earlier LSWR livery than actually carried by this type as I like it!
The transfers were courtesy of Fox transfers
I think there’s a few details I need to add including the reversing mechanism and perhaps drain pipes from the cylinder cocks?

I’m assembling materials for the next bash, which will be to a much larger scale but to similar proportions as this build
A 4-8-2 tender loco, Samson or Hercules perhaps?

Yes, it ll be based on an Annie chassis
This time I’m planning to reverse the chassis and the position of the cylinder block
I ll be skimming what were the front set of drivers of their flanges and the new additional set of drivers (which will become the rear ones) will be coupled . This should mean with the two centre drivers being flangeless the end throw will be reduced as the loco itself will come out at around 20” long
The pictures below hopefully illustrate the two sets of flangeless driver idea on my GNR Q1 that I built a little while ago

Looks great. I have been busy kit bashing a Bachmann 'James' for a while now. The main sticking points have been the size of the driving wheels - can't find the correct size so have decided to 'disguise' the fact that James' wheels are not quite right.

I also found that downpipe was just the right size for the boiler, and have used plasticard for thee main bodywork. I'm currently working on the rodding - trying to get it to look reasonable. Transfers are from Fox Transfers, as yours are. I still have to work on the best positioning forf the cylinder blocks and some other little details, but hey this is my first attempt at a 'kit' bash. As you can see a '00' model has been a useful comparison. All the detailing on the axle springs etc were built up in plasticard on a modified 'troublesome truck' chassis.

Perhaps using an Annie chassis

Hopefully the Gresley influence on Mr Greenly who designed/commissioned the RHDR locos is visible
