As promised in other threads, my completed Norwich Vendors Cart of the 1950s

I remember this one well - the horse was called Kitty, the owner Jimmy Randall, and he came round in the evenings...

Cost of model - well, junk and the wheels/paint - say $5.

A lot of work in the fruit & Veg, how did you make them/?
 
Simples! Just use air-clay, hand moulded, and then paint when dry...although the caulis were built around some little nut thingies that descend on our garden in the thousands...I use quite a bit of natural stuff, and find that a cheapo ladies hair lacquer ($2 from Red Dot) seals all the cellular stuff, so no decay sets in, and nothing shrinks/rots.. Varnish does it too, but costs more. :)

Great detail, love it. The veg and crates make the model to my mind.

Love it! Wish I had the patience, and somewhere the local wildlife and weather wouldn't wreck it.

Thas what my mawther alus reckons...dornt quite know what she means, but shes' a slummocking grate bugger, so I don't argue...me and my pardner John were gorn down the pub, but he coudn't - taken his ole gal to tha doctors - reckoned he wus worried by the sight of har - Oi said - I'll join ya me ole beauty, Oi carnt stand the sight of moine.

Beckett Bor, where'd old Jimma hev his round nen? Up the Klondike or Monkey Island? I carnt member him being around Colman Rood!
 
Jimmy did South Tuckswood Norwich - 1900 hrs regular. In the 50s it was lit by hurricane lamps, learter on he got an ole car battry, and 3 dim bulbs. My brother and I still remember his cry. If Mum was flush, say if the gas meter refund had come in, she'd get some sweets for us.Cheap nasty American ones. His cans of beans were never marked - knocked off form a Base no doubt - and sometimes they turned out to be peas or catfood!. Wonderful times - in hindsight! Or perhaps not...

He on't go to Colman Rood - too posh.. He kept Kitty down near Harford Bridges, and shouted at you if you went trainspotting...
 
I recall Norwich Market from the 1960's onwards , your cart would have looked right at home, wonder if the Pie & Peas stall is still there , they used to taste so good especially with the mint sauce ;D
 
Now that´s going to be copied ASAP for the K&NWLR. That´s much more typical of the UK! :) Wish I´d thought of it :D
 
Yurs, thass a goodun. I 'member suffen loike that on Guildhall Hill back in the 50s near Aldous's ice cream kiosk. Also have vivid memories of a 3 wheeled Trojan van - green with black mudguards and Lambert's Tea advert on the side - hurtling down Sprowston Road. Your next project perhaps?

I'm surprised so many people remember Norwich!! Yup, typical market/vendors cart - do you remember the tea stall ones on the top of the old cattle market, near Anglia TV (Corn Hall)? And one opposite Thorpe Station. Yup, Reggie Yallop used to run the pies n peas - no chips though on his stall - stall, and his family eventually took it over. Now there are chip stalls, chinese etc etc...

yup - and weren't Aldous's the best? - hard - ice cream, unlike Mr Whippy soft stuff, that dribbled on your hands and over your fizz-og. Can remember a Sainsburys' three wheeler, but not one with Lamberts tea on..."the little market", opposite the Cathredral entrance, was a collection of these carts - it wasn't open every day, so guess they moved about...
