Aristocraft Budd Railcar Running on LGB MTS

Hi,

I currently use an LGB MTS system and have decided that I would like to "Chip" my Aristocraft Budd Railcar. Aristocraft designed my model with an easilly accessible plu to take a Digitrax Decoder. My question is will this type of Decoder work on the LGB MTS? I have looked on the Digitrax site and cannot see anything definitive.

I guess my other option would be to hard wire a Massoth decoder?

As DCC is a 'standard', then yes it will work..

You may well find that certain functions are 'different' to the LGB/Massoth way of doing things, but there should be nothing that can't be altered one way or another.

Now, if you want sound as well, then things may be more awkward..
 
As Phil says with other chips in MTS older systems you win some you loose some.

I also find that older MTS Chips are not fully updatable by my Massoth System often just giving me a ? Mark rather than even reading it. Some would say a Sprog is the answer if only I could have got any sense out of the one that I played with!

What was the problem?

Were you getting sproggy results?

Just could never get it to work, was trying to get the system that Andy Rush bought on my advice up and running. After 2-3 hours of faffing, downloading, reloading etc we both lost the will to live. It got sold off when Andy died and I have never been tempted again. I suspect that Dirty Track and poor connections to the Track may have been the issue on reading a little more about them subsequently.
 
What version of MTS are you using, 1, 2S, 2P or 3. Give us the LGB part number if your not sure.
 
Unless your MTS system is parallel, the Digitrax decoder will not do the serial communication needed. Zimo (CV112 can be set for serail operation), LGB (55020/55021) and Massoth decoders will do serial and 14 speed steps in CV 29 must be set.
