Aristo or USAT or TrainLine45 LEFT #6 Big point / switch / turnout

Help please I seems to be one LEFT HANDED #6 point short!

If you have a spare one please pm me with info on condition/generation/condition/upgrades and what you're asking for it.

Reliable operation is all I ask for, this is for outdoor, manual operation so I don't mind weathered but can't pay a premium for shiny track or electric motors etc!

Alternative solutions in Code 332 brass also considered e.g. Aristo Wye, LGB R5 18050 or TrainLine45 .

I might have a left handed R5 spare Mike....will check as soon as this rain stops persisting down!
 
Just checked and I have got a used right hooker ( I thought that it was a leftie). I do have a new left hooker with box and extra bit of track etc.
As you were looking for a used one at a bargain price, it looks like unfortunately I have struck out......sorry Mike
 
Have you looked in Private Sales? There's a L/H (and Right) R5.

It was Aristocraft - I presume that R5 stands for 5ft radius?
 
LGB sizes

R1 = 1200 mm (600mm radius)
R2 = 1560 mm (780mm radius)
R3 = 2390 mm (1195mm radius)
R5 = 4640 mm (2320mm radius)

in inches
R1 - 47.2" diameter (2' radius)
R2 - 61.4" dia (2' 6' rad)
R3 - 94.1" dia (3' 11" rad)
R5 - 182.7" dia (7' 7"rad)
 
That's useful to know Mike. I wonder, what is the radius of the Aristo#6? There seems to be no industry standard in describing points (switches). Looking at LGB, they seem to be described by degrees which means very little unless you know the circumference of the circle. I've bookmarked your answer BTW ;D
 
The other thing you need to know is whether they use centre-line, inner, or outer track for the measurement..

I use them and they are good if you make sure to heavily grease the microswitch that powers the frog (they are live-frogged due to the long frog length that would cause short locos maybe to stall).

The No6 switch (both Aristocraft and USA Trains) has the two routes that diverge from the frog in the form of straights (most other, but not all, switches have a straight and a curved route from the frog)
Aristocraft used to make what they called a 'parallel adapter' for the No6 switch. This enabled you to bring both routes into a parallel track situation.
There was never a size mentioned but it seems to be between a 25ft and 30ft diameter.
The two routes diverge 1" for every 6"....No6

This is the blurb from the advertising some time back:
The diverging leg is not a radius, but is straight and is joined to the main straight section by a shallow curve. The angle between the diverging routes and the frog angle is 9 degrees 30'

Refer to the paragraphs about Classification and Turnout Speeds.


The #6 refers to the fact that the rails will be a ratio of 1 unit apart at a distance of 6 units from the centre of the frog, as per US practice on 12"/1' railroads. The diverging road will straight, as per prototype practice. Curves are only really used on model track.

So technically, there is no radius for a #6 turn out, as there is no curve....

Therefore LGB R3 is just slightly less than PIKO R5....

Sorry All for the delay in updating this one, I was slightly overwhelmed by the number of Large L/H points that you all had lurking in your stores in various conditions. So I was a bit spoiled for choice.

So Many Thanks to Neil Robinson, beavercreek, HBBahn and Zerogee for all your help with this. I now have the solution I was looking for and am very happy!
