Real steaming quality coal in removable loads:
Weather was not the best yesterday - coal is from dregs of the coal heap at The Bellarine Railway - the stuff that is effectively too small to use in the tender but is about correct scale as delivered..
Base of the load is Knauf insulation foam with a mixture of black grout to bind the coal (more effective and dries faster than diluted PVA), using the cling wrap method.
Similar approach used for the ash (from cleaning the smoke-box of full size engines) in the weathered wagon on the left except diluted PVA was adequate in this case:
The foam can be sculpted with either an electric carving knife or foam cutter to raise the centre and minimise the amount of ash/coal required.
(Canyon City's coal loads would be great for a powerhouse but I wouldn't want to try shoveling those lumps into a firebox! )
