Advice please on fixing figures in coaches.

I'm new to G Scale, but have been starting to get garden ready for laying track for last couple of months. When its raining (Most of the last month LOL) I've been looking to add figures into the coaches I have. Can anyone advise me on how to fix the figures into the coaches whereby the can be removed at a later date without causing damage to the seats? I have had it suggested to me to use silicone?

A silicon based adhesive, like this stuff - 2 x Evo-Stik Serious Glue 33g Super Strong Adhesive : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools
I use it to glue figures to seats and standing figures, even on the hot oily, grimey, footplates of live steam locos. Can be removed without lifting most painted surfaces. You need very little to securely attach a 16 mm scale resin/plastic figure. If you are using white metal then bolting or pining a figure will be the best method. Max
 
Yeah, transparent silicone DIY sealant is the easiest thing - one tube will do trainloads :D:D
 
Personally I use "Blu Tack" as it's designed for temporary fixing and therefore easy to remove. I fear some generic sealants may be intended to be permanent unless specified otherwise.

Never thought of that - but I've always managed to get silicone sealant off surfaces. Either that, or is has got itself off the surfaces before I'm ready :oops:

I use BluTak as well. I've had a chap standing on the balcony of one of my coaches for two years now standing on a blob of BluTak

PS - The driver on one of my little 32mm gauge diesels also has a cushion made from BluTak. I think he's been sitting on it for five years now ....
 
I have used tacky wax, as used in dolls houses, not dissimilar to blue tack, though my current favourite is a self tapper through the foot/leg
 
Yep, blue tack keeps all my people in their seats.
it might need replacing after a year or two, can go less tacky!

I was recommended tacky wax. After about 2 years the figures all came loose. I now use silicon sealant or glue.
 
I've some figures in coaches held down with Blue Tack for about 5 years, and a the driver on my Brunel has been stuck there for nearly 10 years, with no problem
 
I have used double sided tape, not the one with the spongy centre, but one I bought from a model aircraft shop.
 
Blue or white tac work well. Double sided tape can leave some residue when removed from seats. But if the plastic used is coloured rather than painted a spot of lighter fuel on a cloth or tissue will remove the sticky stuff with no damage to LGB seats. This is because the fuel evaporates in pretty quick time.

its similar to uhu green glue.

as for quick grip,
a drop will do.
its a clear, tenacious fabric glue. Like a rubber cement, sets fast, remains flexible, withstands extreme temps, moisture.
enough time to reposition.

like silicon, it can be completely picked off,
unlike blu tac, its clear

its a fav of mine…figures, large buildings, details, even impossible to glue lgb coach steps,

once set, its tenacious, yet, with strong even pressure, parts can be separated!

it is appropriate for figures that are to remain in place. A less efective adhesive, imho, would be better if you will remove figures.

i have used doll house tacky wax…..its ok. Doesnt last, collects dirt, not terribly good for repeat handling, but, ok.

i have also used tacky white glue…imho, only suitable for indoor layouts. Basically thick quicker set white glue that dries clear. I use it for n and z details/figures.

I quite like hot-melt, but it is a pain, to wait for the gun to warm-up..
It can 'string' a little, but will peel off most things, without doing damage..

Can also be used for holding wiring. - Though I tend to use Kapton tape.

My tip for hot melt glue:
I melt my hot-melt by putting a stick in front of a blow torch flame then just apply using it straight from the stick end.
I find it easier than trying to maneuver a gun into tight spaces.
 
I know some on here have successfully used self-adhesive velcro tape. Not tried it myself -but then some of my scratchbuilt coaches don't even have seats :eek:.
