Additional track power to a 55021

Just to be 100%, the terminals are ringed in red at the bottom:

Track power should always been the same white to white brown to brown but if one motor is running wrong way then swap the green and yellow wires on one end as this will reverse the motor but not function like lights etc.

This subject begs another question though, when using 2 small decoders on a 2 motor loco it says connect in parallell white to white, brown to brown but surely the rear motor will be running in reverse?????
Do you still then connect them as per the instructions?

Beware if the motor blocks are not oriented in the same way as you may find that the colour coding is reversed on one block - best to "test" the pick up continuity first to be sure.

Sorry for slightly drifting off-thread here - Mark, are those two terminals (brown/white) that you've ringed the same ones that you would use for the track power take-off if connecting an S decoder to a loco already chipped with a 55021?

I would connect a tow wagon with additional pick-ups through the lighting socket on the rear of the loco.

The first mod I carried out on my LCE sets and container Sprinters was ball bearing pickups to improve running quality. Also, the power pickups can then be used to power the sound system (once you install one).

Another alternative is capacitors, but this does require the decoder to be changed to Digital running only to avoid the decoder seeing the cap as an alternate power source (cap hooks up to the two pins either side of the function '1' pin - note polarity sensitive).

Quite right Tim. A definite boon if you're operating short-wheelbase locos, but more pickups are the cheaper solution on a long train.

Still cannot believe how well a six unit LCE runs with the decoders connected through the train, this was easier to do than I thought using banana plug connectors at the end of each intermediate coach which makes assembly an dis assembly a doddle (as long as you remember to do so with the track power off!!!)

Great vid, really shows just how much clearance you need for long cars on curves, especially on the INSIDE of the bend!
