Adding sound to a LGB 20261's powered tender

I have a LGB 20261 and I want to add a sound unit to it. I expect that it would be easiest to add it to the tender, but I can't find much information on taking one apart. Is this the best way to go about it?1000035211.jpg


Sorry if this is a very simple question, I haven't had much experience with garden railroading since I was a child, and apparently a lot has changed in the last 30 years!
 
There is certainly more space in the tender, but probably not as much as you think..

Just four screws, to separate top and bottom, normally.

Is your tender powered?
If you already have pickups, then that makes some of it a little easier, though you can always use the socket on the rear of the Stainz, to give you power.

Do you just want a 'chuff' or are you after more than this?

With a bit of creative placement, you can fit a fair amount in one of the powered tenders.

Mine has:

Loksound V5 XL
ESP32 WiDCC Receiver
WiDCC board + Cytron MD13S
13200uF cap bank
Visaton 50mm speaker
DCC distribution board + selector switch
Servo for the rear coupler

I also took the gearbox apart to add a magnet ring and hall effect sensor for chuffs:

That's a hell of a job, maybe I'll be there one day!
 
To create more room in the tender I would remove the weight and place the speaker there. I have also removed plastic from the inside of the tender (made a hole for the speaker) as the 'coal' load does not need all the plastic under it and a round speaker will fit nicely this hole.

But I would weigh the tender, before and after, and try to get the weight back to somewhere near where it was.. - This will aid traction.
