A useful tool

tramcar trev

all manner of mechanical apparatus...
A fibre eraser. I just discovered how versatile these are. With a little practise they can remove lettering/lining etc and leave the substrate looking good and I also discovered that they make an absolutely amazing detail sander getting where no sanding block ever can go......
I have 2, an elcheapo Chinese one; not so good and this one from Faber;

Just followed the link and quite bizarrely it says

Doesn't post to the United Kingdom
Item location: Birmingham, United Kingdom

Is this what happens when the postal service is privatised?

PS - Never owned one of these. Often seen them advertised but never been sure I would have a use for it.

DO NOT use anywhere near your expensive loco's!
The fine filaments of glass fibre that are shredded off the eraser when used are very, very abrasive - Don't get this stuff anywhere near axle boxes, motors, gearboxes etc

They are brilliant for cleaning brass track ready for soldering. A quick scrub with the brush & a blob of flux, a perfect joint.

dont use them on ballbearing wheels either..

I use them too for cleaning up brass before and after soldering. Don't be tempted to brush the spent fibre off with your pinkies though, well not unless you want to sit there picking the fibres out of your pinkies with tweezers :timeout:
